TALLAHASSEE - Even a flat tire and warm beer couldn't keep Michelle
Dover and her two young children, Ben and Eileen, from visiting
Tallahassee. The reason? A state-wide rumor had circulated that the
Samuri Pizza Cats would be appearing to help kick off a scratch-off
lottery promotion. Unfortunately, the three feline crime fighters had
cancelled their appearance at the last minute in order to appear on the
Late Show with Conan O'Brien.
Instead of the super heroes, three festive Lottery employees took to the
podium with faces painted on their bellies while a loud speaker blared a
whistling march. "You've gotta be kidding me," said 8-year-old Eileen ",
this is just another in a series of profound disappointments." Others in
the crowd seemed to enjoy the snappy march, while others agreed with
Eileen. "You suck! We want Pizza Cats!" yelled someone from off-stage.
The scratch-off game being promoted, "Cat Scratch Fever," is different
from other Florida Lottery scratch-off games in that the game pieces are
decorated with pictures of cats. Like other scratch-off games, the
gamepiece is made of paper, costs a dollar, and the chances of winning
are insignificant.
