Materials list for Reverse Decoupage Plates:

Step 1:Using pen or pencil, trace your plate size onto the paper plate.Set paper plate aside.

Step 2: Thoroughly wash your glass plate, removing price sticker glue, and etc. Thoroughly dry your plate.

Step 3: Arrange your cut-outs in a pleasant design on top of the paper plate. Be sure to lay them exactly as you would like them to look on the glass plate, and stay within the size line.

Step 4: Place glass plate right side up on top of paper plate.

Step 5: Use crayon or marker to trace your larger cut-outs onto outside of glass plate to help with placement later.

Step 6: Place glass plate upside down on top of your "stand".

Step 7: Using Decoupage medium and foam paintbrush, paint a very thin coat of medium onto the back of your plate in the area where your first cut-out will go. Remember you will be placing your foreground items first. Lift the first cut-out off the paper plate and place it onto the glass plate, using placement lines as a guide.

Step 8: Paint a thin coating of decoupage medium onto the back of the cut-out, so there will be medium on both sides of the cut-out.Use your finger to smooth out any bubbles, being careful not to pull on the paper too much, as it can tear.

Step 9: Carefully pick up plate and check for placement. Notice any visible bubbles, and smooth them. You may move the cut-out while the medium is still wet. Proceed with next cut-out in same manner. Allow each cut-out to dry a few moments before layering another. Remember to keep the layers of medium very thin. You can add a few drops of water to back of plate to allow more time to work if it is drying too fast.

Step 10: After all cut-outs have been glued into place, smoothed, and allowed to dry, pick up plate and check your design. Add more cut-outs if you think you need to. If unsure about what background color to use, place plate above various colored items in your home to see which looks best.

Step 11: Place plate upside down on stand and paint a layer of waterbase varnish onto plate. Seal all edges of plate and any gaps in designs. Allow to dry thoroughly as per package directions.

Step 12: When varnish is dry, paint a layer of background color onto plate. Allow to dry. Pick up plate and view with light behind it. If necessary, paint several more coats of paint onto plate, allowing paint to dry between coats.

Step 13: Paint another layer of varnish onto plate and allow to dry.

Step 14: Paint 1-2 layers of black onto plate, allowing each coat to dry.

Step 15: Finish with 1-2 coats of varnish. Sand the front edges lightly to remove any rough places if necessary.

Step 16: With glass cleaner, clean crayon or marker from front of plate. DO NOT IMMERSE PLATE IN WATER!!! To clean, wipe with wet cloth. Plate can be eaten from, but not immersed in water or dishwasher.
