~*~*~*~*~*~*LABOR OF LOVE!*~*~*~*~*~*~

We are looking for crafters interested in participating in a 'Labor of Love'. For the last two years, I have done this alone. A friend suggested that there are crafters out there who would love to participate. So, let me tell you about this 'Labor of Love'.
There is a camp, Camp Chrysalis, in a very rural part of Maine, whose goal is to provide a wonderful camping experience to children, and their families, who are infected with or affected by the HIV/AIDS virus. The cost for one camper is $200.00.
By making crafts and offering them to people as a 'Thank You' for a $20.00 donation, I raised $2000.00 two years ago. And this past year, I was able to double my efforts and double the results, by raising $4000.00.
I am looking for crafters who are willing to make 10 items that others would be willing to donate $20.00 for, and you would give them one of your items as a 'Thank You'.
Please E- mail me and let me know if you are willing to make this committment. I usually make some of my items (to have them ready to go) before Valentines' Day. Then, I send letters out to friends, so they arrive on Valentine Day. The response has been great.
All checks are made out to Camp Chrysalis, sent to me, and when I have 10 checks, I forward them to the Directors of the Camp, this to attempt to keep the paperwork and bank trips to a minimum for them. They both work full time, and this Camp is their Labor of Love. Are you willing to help? Let me know. We will see what a difference you can make for others, whose needs are very real.
I have made little dolls with a jacket that says'Heal AIDS with Love'. And this past year I made 'Angels of Love' that also had this logo on the angels' dresses.

~*~*~*~*~*~*UPDATE!*~*~*~*~*~*~

Volunteers are joining our ranks in a LABOR OF LOVE! Butchers and bakers we have not! But, let me tell you, we have a candle maker, a ceramics crafter, a paper artist and on and on.
Many wonderful crafters have volunteered to participate in LABOR OF LOVE.
Aleene’s Creative Living Show read my letter on their show. This added more volunteers! For which we are very grateful.
I hope you had a wonderful Holiday season, filled with love and friendship. Here we are in a New Year, a new century and a new millennium! What a wonderful way to start anew by reaching out to others. I want to thank you again for volunteering to use your creativity to help project: LABOR OF LOVE.
Just a few thoughts: If you have any questions, please E-mail me, write to me or call me. I will respond as soon as I can. When you have completed your project, please be sure to take pictures of it. I’d like to send a picture to Camp Chrysalis and to Aleene’s Creative Living to show them the wonderful work that was done.
Also, if you care to make one extra item to be sent to the camp, please mail it to me. I’d like to get a picture of all craft items in one big collage, so to speak. However, if you prefer to send it directly to the camp, you can do that also.
Please remember that all checks get made out to Camp Chrysalis.
When you have them all, please forward them to me. I will gather all the checks and forward them to the Directors. I’d like to keep their trips to the bank to a minimum, since they both work full time.
One last thought, if you know of any other crafters who would like to get involved, please pass the info on to them or to me and I will send them any info they need. OK?
Happy crafting! Please keep in touch with me and let me know how your project is coming along. I’ve started mine, which this year will be wall hangings, as well as more of the Angels of Love that I made last year.

~*~*~*~*~*~*FEBRUARY UPDATE!*~*~*~*~*~*~

Hello, again! I’ve heard from many of you regarding the project you have chosen to make to help send children to Camp Chrysalis.
They are as varied as the stars in the sky! Because Aleene’s Creative Living Show was kind enough to read my letter to crafters, I’d like to keep them informed as to how Labor of Love is coming along. I would appreciate it, if, at your leisure, you send me an E-mail telling me what you chose to do or what you think you will choose to do.
I actually started with one project: wallhangings with either hearts or angels, with the logo "Heal AIDS with love" on them. After making 30 of them, my Labor of Love doll finally was born! It was a long "birthing" process. But, after the brain labor, it is now being brought to life.
It is a little cloth girl doll. She wears a sundress of calico fabrics. On the bib of the dress is the logo "Heal AIDS with Love". She wears a hat with a ribbon band. On the band is a small red AIDS awareness ribbon. I fashioned this doll, (as well as the first one I did and the Angel of Love) with no facial features, as AIDS is a faceless disease.
Everyone who has seen this doll, says she’s really cute. I’m excited about this project. My letters requesting a donation of $20.00 went out on Valentine’s Day. I happen to like this day of Love. In the midst of all this activity, it is necessary for us to move to a smaller house not far from where we live now. So, I’ve completed the wall hangings and 30 Dolls. But will not sew any more of them until mid March. My goal is to make 200 dolls.
I wish you well as you work on crafting your Labor of Love.
And share another quote with you: "Gifted women, even as they reclaim their creative lives, even as beautiful things flow from their hands, from their pens, from their bodies, still question whether they are writers, painters, artists, people, real ones. And of course they are real ones even though they might like to bedevil themselves with what constitutes "real".…Real is what has life."
( From Women Who Run With the Wolves by Estes)
Please let me know what you are crafting, what you are bringing to life
Have a great day and a happy heart!
