Exhibition Opener!

49ers will open regular season against Oakland.

Starting QB Tim Rattay will not play against Oakland.

The Latest 49er News and Notes:

  • Exhibition Opener: The 49ers open their 2004 pre-season schedule on Saturday, August 14th against the Oakland Raiders. The home game will kick-off at 5:00 p.m.
  • The Real Thing: The 49ers will open their 2004 regular season schedule on Sunday, September 12th against the Atlanta Falcons. The home game will kick-off at 1:15 p.m.
  • Around the league: The defending champion New England Patriots open the season as favorites to repeat. In the NFL, though, there is no such thing as a sure bet!
  • Roster update: OT Khiawatha Downey, who was the first player with multiple sclerosis trying to make an NFL team, was released. Coach Dennis Erickson said the 49ers might send him to NFL Europe next spring if he isn't picked up by another team.
