NPA BACK IN TINAMBAC

 Tinambac, Cam. Sur. At least three members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed and 3 civilians were wounded in an encounter with Army troopers over a month ago at Sitio Lawigogon, Barangay Lupi, Tinambac, Camarines Sur.

In his report to 2nd Infantry Division commander Brig. Gen. Jose S. Lachica, Lt.Col. Rodolfo Berdan of the 1st Infantry Battalion identified the slain rebels as Gregorio Ramirez, 14; a certain Ka Bunso,; and an unidentified rebel.

Wounded when caught in the crossfire were: Dominador Iballa, 35, his wife Meriam, 32 and their four-year old son Aldrin.

Berdan said that an Army team led by Sgt. Victoriano Dacillo was conducting barangay visitation as part of the troopers’ election duties when fired upon by the rebels who positioned themselves in the house of the Iballas.

Although one of the soldiers – Pfc. Dante Buncajes, was hit and wounded, the armymen were able to shoot back and engaged the NPA’s to a 10-minute firefight. The three slain rebels were abandoned by their comrades at the height of the gunbattle.

Recovered from the scene of the encounter were: 3 Armalite and 2 M14 rifles, ammunitions, documents and personal belongings.

The wounded civilians were immediately brough by the troopers to the Bicol Medical Center and were given financial assistance.
