In mid-November, 2010 we went to Nebraska and Iowa. We rode a special Union Pacific excursion train pulled by steam engine 844 from Omaha to North Platte, Nebraska. It snowed 3" the first night and they must have plowed the roads overnight because we had no trouble driving to the train station at 5:30 a.m. It was cold but clear the rest of the time. The train ride was long (14 hours) but fun. The Bailey Classification Yard in North Platte is huge (largest in the world with over 300 miles of track). We saw several great Art Deco buildings including the capitol in Lincoln and the old Union Station in Omaha which is now a museum.
