Palm Springs, California
March 15-18, 2012
Kathy and I drove to Palm Springs/Indian Wells to see the best tennis players in the world compete at the BNP Paribas Open. On the way there, we found a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the middle of farmland in the Central Valley of California. We arrived Thursday afternoon in time to enjoy the Villagefest - the Thursday night street market started by Sonny Bono. The BNP Paribas Open is just below the four Grand Slams and the stadium is the second largest tennis stadium in the world. We had tickets to see eight matches on two of the last three days. On the day between matches, we planned to take the rotating tram up to the top of Mt. San Jacinto to hike and enjoy the view. Unfortunately, a big storm rolled in and the tram was closed. So instead, we saw the Plam Springs Art Museum and the Palm Springs Air Museum which has the largest collection of still-flying WWII aircraft in the world. We left the stadium at 4:30 p.m. and drove 525 miles arriving home at 1:15 a.m. Here's a slidshow of 37 of over 350 photos I took. It can be paused: Photos
