"Decisions" Chapter 8 By: Victoria S.

After the concert, Leighanne ushered me backstage. It was really hard to get back there because of all of the fans that were running towards the doors trying to get a glimpse of the guys. I heard girls flirting, and offering money to the security guards so they could go backstage and meet them. I am assuming that they had strict orders not to, because the guards just shook their heads and said "No." As we approached the door, this big, muscular black guy began to speak with Leighanne.

"Leighanne! Nice to see you again.." he said in a husky voice.

"Yeah, no kidding! Its been awhile.." She turned and faced me "This is my friend Rebecca.."

"Hello Rebecca, nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you also," I said shaking his hand and giving him a smile.

He opened the door and let Leighanne in. Just as I was about to walk in he said "Excuse me, miss, but where do you think you are going?"

I wanted to say something cocky like 'Where do you THINK I am going dumb ass?' But I didn't want to start anything so I just kept silent.

Leighanne spoke up and said "Rick, come on, let her in. She's with me."

"Leighanne you know I can't just let anyone come in here. I know she's your friend, but you have brought way to many people back here, and management has told me not to allow you to bring anymore. Its for the safety of the guys.."

"Rick, you don't understand!" Leighanne said in an annoyed manner.

I was getting ticked of also. Why wouldn't the jerk let me go in, damn it!?

Leighanne leaned in and whispered something into his ear.

"Well, why didn't you say so!?! Go on in!" He opened the door once more, and we walked in.

"What did you say to him that made him change his mind?"

"I told him the truth.."

"And what is that?"

"That you are Nick's girlfriend."

"Oh! HAHA, I forgot about that!" I laughed.

Leighanne slapped me over the head in a playful manner, and said "Girl, you better not be forgetting that! Don't worry, soon everyone will know that you are. Everyone knows that me and B are going out together."

"Yeah, but you two have been dating for over two years.."

"Yep! And its been the best two years of my life," she said with a huge wacky grin on her face. "Here, sit down," she said pointing to the red couch. "I need to go talk to someone. I'll be right back."

She left, and I just sat and took in my surroundings. There were girls lined up by the wall, all talking loudly about how great the concert was, and how great the guys looked.

"Man, Nick looked sooo fine! I wish I could just eat him up!" a tall, pretty red-headed girl said loudly.

I laughed at her comment. I knew that for as long as I was dating Nick I would continue hearing these things.

"Yeah, I know what you mean. I swear, if I was alone with him in a room, I would show him the time of his life!"

OK, now THAT was going a little TOO far. These girls didn't even know them, and they were talking trash. It angered me, but I wasn't about to go up and start something with them. Just then I heard screams. "Oh my god, there they are!!!!" yelled a group of girls. They began to jump up and down, and were screaming like little two year olds. It was hysterical. All the guys walked up to them, Leighanne a few feet behind Brian, and began to talk with them, and signed their autograph books, and took pictures. Nick turned to Leighanne and asked her something. She pointed to where I was sitting, and he waved to me. He then focused his attention on the girls. I was sitting on the couch for a good twenty minutes, just observing what was going on. Finally, after what seemed forever, all the girls were escorted outside by security, and all the guys, and Leighanne walked up to me. Nick took a seat next to me, and draped his arm around me. "So.. Did you like the show?"

"Like it!? I loved it! Ask Leighanne. I was going crazy!"

All the guys looked at her expectantly and she said "Yes, she was! I'm surprised you didn't faint!"

"I almost did!" I laughed, and so did everyone else.

"I looked over to where you two were sitting a few times, and I could tell that you liked it," Nick said with a grin.

"I did. It was awesome! I can't wait to see you guys perform again."

"Do you think you can catch anymore shows with us?" Howie asked.

"I don't know.. I have school."

"Isn't school over in a few months?" Kevin asked me.

"Yes, it is, thank god! I am soo sick of it!"

"Well, can't you come with us after school is over?" Nick asked eagerly.

I knew I wanted to. Very, very badly. I just had to get the OK with my mother and father. I knew it would be fine with my father, because he absolutely adored the guys. He loved everything about them, so I knew it wouldn't be a problem. The problem was my mother. My mother would not be as fond of the idea. I knew that when I asked her she would give me this long lecture, and then probably say no.

"I would love to come with you guys," I said looking at all of their eager faces, but I don't know if my mother would like the idea."

"We could talk with her," Brian said with a smile. "I'm sure all of our Backstreet charm would change her mind. And you know that your father would love the idea."

"Oh yeah! I know my father would agree with no question."

"Then all we have to do is talk to her," Nick said.

"Hopefully it will work out.."Mo< "Yeah, hopefully.." Nick said letting his voice trail.

I was so flattered that Nick wanted me to come so badly. You could tell that he really wanted me to come, and I knew that I wanted to come very much, but the only problem was my mother. She was so stubborn! And still is!

"Well, guys, I am getting kind of sleepy. I think I am gonna head back to the hotel," Howie said in between yawns. "Anyone care to join me?"

"I will," Kevin said stretching. "I am so exhausted, its not even funny."

"What are our plans for tomorrow?" AJ asked.

Kevin spoke up. "We have an interview with a magazine.. I think Teen Beat or something, then we have the rest of the day off. Which is very strange, cause we hardly get any time off."

"That is kind of weird. Oh well, I'm not complaining!" AJ said gleefully.

"I know me neither!" Brian said showing just as much enthusiasm.

"Ready to go Kev?" Howie asked wanting to get out of there.

"Very ready!"

Howie and Kevin said their good-bye's and goodnights, and headed towards the exit, and out to Kevin's car.

"Uh, guys?" Nick asked.

We all looked at him.

"I just thought of something. How are we gonna get back to the hotel?"

"I have Brian's car. That's how I came here. I can take you guys back," Leighanne said.

"Where are you an B going?"

"I don't know, we haven't really discussed it," she said. "We just know that we want to go somewhere other than the hotel."

"Us too," I said speaking up.

"Well, if you are all going to go out, I might as well go back to the hotel," AJ said somewhat in a sad tone.

I knew that he was probably feeling left out so I said "AJ, its cool, you can hang with us."

"No.. Its alright. I'll just go with Kev and D. I'll see you guys tomorrow!" With that, he ran towards the exit, and outside, trying to catch up to the car.

"Did he seem kind of sad?" I asked.

"Kinda," Brian said.

"I feel bad."

"Why do you feel bad?"

"I don't know, I just do."

"Your too nice!" Brian said with a laugh.

"Isn't that a good thing?"

"Sometimes."

"I can't help it." I looked down to the floor, and then erupted into a fit of giggles.

"So, you guys have any ideas on what we should do?" Nick asked. He wanted to get out of there, and I couldn't blame him. "Do you wanna catch a movie?"

"You know what I want to do?" I said.

"What?" they all asked at the same time.

"I want to go clubbing! I know we went last night, but I really wasn't in the mood to dance.. You all know why." I looked around at them, and they all nodded their heads.

"Alright, then let's do that!" Nick said jumping up from his seat.

"Hold up, Nick, WANTING to go to a club?" Brian asked in shock. I didn't understand why he was so shocked. Did Nick not like to go out late or something?

"Yeah! I'm in the mood to get my groove on," he said doing a little dance.

"This is a first!" Leighanne laughed.

"Come on, let's go before I change my mind." He grabbed my hand, and ushered us all out to Brian's waiting car.

************************************************** About an hour later we arrived at the club that we were at the previous night. The reason it took us an hour to get there was because we went back to the hotel so the guys could take showers, and so that Leighanne and I could change. I was still in my tank top and shorts, and I didn't want to go to the club looking like that.

Leighanne brought her clothes into my room, and we both changed. She decided on a short, baby blue dress with 3/4 length sleeves, and wore her white platforms. She let her blonde hair fall down her back, and put on a little makeup. I put my light purple dress that reached just under my knees, and my white platform sandals. I let my hair down, and put on some makeup. The guys decided on the sporty look. Brian wore his light blue, faded baggy jeans, and a blue T-shirt, and Nick wore his dark blue, baggy jeans, and a green T-shirt. He explained to me later on that green was his favorite color.

When we finally arrived at the club I felt different that the night before. I knew that we were in the same place, but the atmosphere was different. I think it was partly because so many things has happened in that 24 hour time period. Nick and I shared our first kiss, and many more after that, and he had finally asked me to be his girlfriend. Everything was different, and the feeling that I was feeling right at that moment felt great.

Brian parked the car, and we all got out, and made our way into the club. It was even more packed that the night before which was very hard to believe because there had been so many people there. The club was huge, so I assumed that there were over 7,000 people. Everyone was going crazy. There were drunk people everywhere, some even passed out. Girls were dancing on tables and all the guys who were surrounding the tables were going crazy. The music was even louder than before, which again is hard to believe.

"What would you like me to get you to drink?" Nick yelled into my ear.

"A martini, please!!" I yelled back.

Apparently he understood, because Brian and Nick went to get Leighanne and my drinks. We made our way towards the back of the club, and found an empty table. We sat down, and began to speak. I don't even remember what exactly it was that we talked about, but I am almost positive that it was about Nick and Brian. As we were talking, two guys approached, us and sat down. They were both drunk, and you could smell the stench of cigarettes on them.

"Excuse me, these seats are taken!" Leighanne yelled above the music.

"Yeah, we know!" a tall, blonde guy said "By us!"

"Um.. NO!" Leighanne yelled. "By those two incredibly gorgeous guys that are coming right now."

Brian and Nick came up to our tables, and gave the guys strange looks.

"These are OUR seats," Nick yelled trying to make his voice heard.

The guys gave them a bad look, and rolled their eyes. Finally, they got up.

The blonde guy leaned in to me, and whispered "I'll see you on the dance floor.." He had this huge grin on his face, and it scared the hell out of me.

"I don't think so!" I shouted pushing him away. He acted all hurt, and then finally stomped off. Brian and Nick sat down, and shook their heads in disgust.

"Anyways.." Brian shouted. "Here are your drinks."

"What!?" Leighanne and I said in unison.

Brian and Nick looked and each other, and at the same time, moved their seats closer to us, so we could actually hear what they were saying.

"I said," Brian said beginning to speak again, "Here are your drinks!"

Brian handed Leighanne her Scotch on the rocks, and Nick handed me my martini.

A few minutes later, Brian and Leighanne got up to dance. They made their way towards the dance floor, and I saw Brian put his arms around her waist. They began to sway towards the beat of the music.

"Aww.. How cute!" I said sighing.

"Would you like to dance?" Nick asked me.

"I thought you would never ask!!" I exclaimed ecstatically.

He took my hand and led me over to the dance floor. Just as we began to dance the song ended and another song came on. One of my favorite songs of all time, and also one of the most romantic ones. The name of the song was 'Whenever You Call' sung by Mariah Carey. The minute the song came on Nick recognized it, and smiled that famous smile of his that he was best known for. He leaned into my ear and yelled as loud as he could in order for me to hear "I love this song!"

"Me too!" I shouted.

He closed his eyes, and began to sing while we were dancing closely.

"Whenever You Call"

Love wandered inside

Stronger than you

Stronger than I

And now that it has begun

We cannot turn back

We can only turn into one

As he was singing I could not help but stare. He was putting so much feeling into what he was singing, and I could not help but wonder if he was thinking about me while he sung.

Chorus I won't ever be too far away to feel you

And I won't hesitate at all

Whenever you call

And I'll always remember

The part of you so tender

I'll be the one to catch your fall

Whenever you call

He still had his eyes closed and was singing with a lot of heart. I put my head on his shoulder and sighed thinking about how lucky I was to have finally realized my true feelings for him. "Thank God," I thought to myself.

And I'm truly inspired

Finding my soul

There in your eyes

And you

Have opened my heart

And lifted me inside

By showing me yourself

Undisguised

I won't ever be too far away to feel you

And won't hesitate at all

Whenever you call

And I'll always remember

The part of you so tender

I'll be the one to catch your fall

Whenever you call

I felt his hand lift my face up to his, and I looked at him in the eyes. Then he began to sing again this time right to me.

And I will breathe for you each day

Comfort you through all the pain

Gently kiss your fears away

He then planted a kiss on my cheek right as he said that, and continued to sing staring deeply into my eyes.

You can turn to me and cry

Always understand that I

Give you all I am inside

I won't ever be too far away to feel you

And won't hesitate at all

Whenever you call

I won't ever be too far away to feel you

And won't hesitate at all

Whenever you call

I'll always remember

The part of you so tender

And be the one to catch your fall

Whenever you call

As he finished the last sentence I couldn't help but begin to cry. I was crying happy tears. Tears of joy. What he had just done, singing to me like that was so sweet. No one had ever treated me so good. Nick was the first one that truly respected me, really cared about me. I was so overjoyed.

"What's wrong?" he asked worriedly. "Did I do something wrong?"

"No, no. Of course not. Everything you did was so right. Thanks Nick."

"For what?" he yelled into my ear.

"For being so good to me. For singing to me the way you just did. It really means a lot to me."

He smiled and said "and it means a lot to me to see a smile on your face." Then he leaned in and gave me a sweet, gentle kiss on the lips. He then reached for my hand, and we began to walk back to the table where Brian and Leighanne were sitting there waiting for us. They both had huge grins on their faces because they knew exactly what had just happened.

"You two looked so cute together out on the dance floor!" Leighanne exclaimed.

I blushed and Nick rolled his eyes. We didn't stay too long at the club since the guys were tired. Leighanne and I totally understood that they needed their rest because of the long night they had just endured. On our way to the car I asked "What are we going to do tomorrow? Or should I say today since it is way past 12:00."

"We don't have any definite plans yet, other than checking out the town, and going to eat somewhere," Brian stated.

"Do you have to work tomorrow, Bri?" Leighanne asked.

"Nope! Thank God! I am sooo tired, and I want to just chill tomorrow."

"Good, cause that's what we all want to do, I am sure!"

We jumped into the car, and sped to the hotel for a good nights sleep.

******************************************** I awoke at 10:00 in the morning to the smell of coffee in my room. I heard noises coming from the bathroom, and jumped out of bed to see who was in my room.

"Nick?" I said rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. "What are you doing here and how did you get in?"

"I asked for the spare key down at the front desk. I came with breakfast!" he said with a grin on his face.

I walked into the bathroom, and turned on the water faucet. "It certainly smells good." I splashed water on my face to help me wake up.

"Come on, let's go eat."

Nick brought the tray full of croissants, waffles, French toast, eggs, and orange juice into the room and set it down on the table. I brought the pot of coffee along with two coffee cups.

"I think you ordered a little bit too much."

"The other guys and Leighanne are going to have breakfast with us that's why I ordered so much. Their coming in fifteen minutes.. Which means we have fifteen minutes to ourselves," he said with a sly smile.

"Fifteen minutes to do what?"

"Come here," he said motioning for me to sit on his lap. Once I had sat, he said "Fifteen minutes to do this.." He then leaned in and gave me a huge good morning kiss on the lips. He began kissing my neck, nibbling on my earlobes, and caressing my back. Just then the door swung open and in walked AJ.

"Hey guys!" he yelled. "Ooops, sorry.. Didn't mean to interrupt. I'll come back."

"AJ, no, it's cool. Come in," I said getting off of Nicks lap. Just then I had a total deja-vu. I thought back to when I was in their tour bus and was kissing AJ. I remembered how Nick had walked in, and had said the same exact thing. Now it was Nick and me kissing and AJ had walked in. Things totally had changed in that 24 hour time period.

"What's up?" AJ asked, then paused and said "Other than Nick."

"AJ!!!!" Nick yelled. He jumped from his chair and ran over to AJ and started pretending to punch him.

I was laughing so hard. Not just at the comment that AJ had made, although that was funny as hell, but at the fact that they were making complete idiots of themselves wrestling.

"What's going on in here?" Brian asked walking into the room with Leighanne not far behind.

"Oh, nothing.. Other than the fact that AJ and Nick are acting like kindergartners."

"What else is new?" Kevin said walking into the room with Howie.

"Can we please eat now, because I am starved!" I said sitting down on the chair. Everyone agreed and began to eat.

Brian burped and Leighanne and I both said "Ewww! Gross!!"

"I can do it again if you would like?"

"No, that's alright. Maybe next time," I said.

"So, what are we going to do today?" Leighanne asked.

Howie spoke up. "Why don't we just get into our cars and drive to wherever they take us."

Everyone agreed, and got up from their seats to leave. They all were about to walk out the door, but I stopped them short.

"Uh, guys.. Sorry to have to break this to you," I said. "But I am not going anywhere in my pajamas."

Everyone looked down at my flannel PJ's and laughed.

"We'll wait for you down in the lobby," Brian said.

"I'm going to help her decide what to wear," Leighanne said, sitting down on the bed.

The guys all turned to leave, and left Leighanne and myself in the room by ourselves.

"Have any suggestions?" I asked her.

"How about something comfortable, since God only knows where we will end up today."

"Sounds good. I have just the thing." I grabbed my baby blue tank top, and my khaki shorts and walked to the bathroom to change. From the bathroom I could hear Leighanne talking to me.

"So... You and Nick seem to be getting pretty close.."

"Is it that obvious?" I said putting on my tank top.

"Well, to me it is, since I have a sixth sense about these things."

"I really like him." I paused to think and then said "I just only hope he has the same feelings for me."

"I know for sure that he has the same feelings as you do."

"How are you so sure?" I inquired eagerly.

"Oh, no reason..."

I quickly put on my shorts, and ran out of the bathroom and into the room.

"What do you know that I don't?"

"Oh, nothing..."

"Leighanne!!!"

"OK, OK!! After you had gone to bed last night Nick came into Bri's and my room and wanted to talk to Brian about something. I had gone to the bathroom, but could still hear bits and pieces of their conversation.

"Go on," I said anxiously.

"I heard Nick say and I quote: 'I really like her, and I feel that we have this really cool connection. There's just something about this girl that I love. I definitely know that this is something I have never felt before.' Then Brian said something, but I can't remember what."

"Did he really say that?"

Leighanne nodded her head.

"You have NO idea how happy this makes me!! I know I have only known him for about a week, but so much has happened in that one week time period. I only wish that I didn't have to leave tomorrow. But I know I have to since I have school and all."

"I know exactly how you are feeling. When Brian and I started to go out I never wanted to leave his side, but I knew I had to since he had to tour and I had to work. But don't worry if your relationship is really meant to be, then you will survive the time that you are apart. And you know what?"

"What?"

"I actually think being apart from each other can make a relationship even stronger. Talk to Nick about it and see how he feels." "I will. Thanks Leighanne for everything."

"No problem."

We then hugged, and she helped me finish getting ready.

********************************** "What took you so long?" AJ asked impatiently.

Leighanne and I looked at each other then faced AJ and at the same time we both said "Girl stuff!"

Once he heard that he got scared and said "OK, no details. I do not want to know!"

We all laughed and then walked to the parking lot to the cars. We decided to take two cars. Nick, Brian, Leighanne and I all went in Nick's car, and Howie, Kevin and AJ went in Howie's.

"So, where are we going?" Nick yelled from one car to another.

"I don't know, let's just drive," Howie yelled so Nick could hear him. "You lead."

Nick nodded and drove out of the lot with Howie following close behind. We drove for a few hours just checking the scenery, until Nick's phone began to ring. Nick picked up the phone and mouthed to all of us "It's Howie." He talked to Howie for a few more minutes, and then hung up the phone.

"What did he want?" Brian asked.

"He said that AJ has been complaining that he's hungry, and wants McDonald's. So we're gonna stop there get food, and go somewhere to eat it."

"Yes, Micky D's!!" I yelled like a little kid.

"Someone's enthused!" Nick said laughing.

"Sorry.."

"It's OK," he said soothingly. He put his hand on my knee and continued to drive with one hand on the wheel all the way to McDonald's.

************************************** "Where are we going?" Leighanne complained.

I was kind of wondering the same thing myself. We had been driving for hours, and now we were driving up this big mountain to I don't even know where.

"Yeah, where ARE we going?" Brian and I asked at the same time.

"Howie told me that he knows someplace up on this mountain that has the view of the whole city. I think that's where he is leading us to, now."

Finally, like ten minutes later we arrived to this secluded place that was shaded by trees. There was a picnic area with benches, and around the benches there were colorful, and blooming flower beds.

"This place is so pretty!" I said ecstatically.

"Yeah, I know! Man, D knows all the romantic spots," Nick said.

"That's why we call him Sweet D, bro."

We parked the cars and got out carrying the food over to the benches. We all sat down, except for Howie.

"Why are you sitting down on the benches?" he asked. "I'll go bring some blankets that I have in the back of my car and we'll go sit over there," he said pointing over to some big rocks that had moss growing all over them. "It overlooks the city and is really beautiful." He then went over to the car for the blankets.

"He is in a really romantic mood! Has anyone else noticed that?" AJ asked.

"I think we've ALL noticed it!" Brian said laughing, and we joined along.

"Here are the blankets!" Howie said escorting us over to the rocks, and grass. He laid the blankets down and we all sat down. Leighanne next to Brian, of course, and Nick by me.

Once we had settled in, AJ said loudly "Now let's eat!!!"

We all ate our burgers, and fries, and talked the whole entire time. Once we had finished I excused myself and went for a walk. I walked over to bench overlooking the other side of San Francisco. I had been sitting there for a few minutes when I heard someone from behind me say "Mind if I join you?"

I turned around the face the voice and there was Nick looking all gorgeous as always. "Of course not." I smiled and patted the seat next to me. He sat down on the bench and put his arm around me bringing me closer. I rested my head on his chest.

"How come you came all the way out here by yourself?" he asked concerned.

"All the way out here? It's like 5 minutes away from where you are all sitting." I laughed at his comment.

Nick looked hurt.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Thanks for caring." I gave him a kiss on the cheek working my way towards his mouth. When our mouths met we opened them and let our tongues do all the work. After our long make-out session I rested my head back on his chest.

"Nick?"

"Yeah?"

"Well... Um.. I... I..."

"What is it?"

"I was just wondering if you are at all sad that we won't get to see each other for awhile. Cause if you want to end the relationship right now because of the fact that we won't be together I totally understand."

"Now why would I want to do that?"

"I don't know.. I just thought that--"

"You think too much," he said with a laugh. "And no I do not want to end our relationship. Unless you want to."

"No, no, I don't want to."

"Good."

"I just am sad at the fact that I don't know when the next time I will see you will be."

"Yeah, so am I. Maybe you can come on tour with us during the summer after your school gets out."

"That would be really cool, but like I said before I really don't think that my mom would let me. She's weird like that."

"Well, then I'll talk to your mom about it. My suave, irresistible personality will get the best of her, and she'll change her mind. You wait and see."

"Your too cute!"

"Why thank you, dear," he said with that million dollar Carter smile of his. He sounded really sure of himself, but I wasn't too sure of him. My mother was one tough cookie, and once she said no, she said no for good. I guess we would have to just wait and see what verdict the judge would decide.
