Prologue to Proverbs

for attaining wisdom and discipline;
for understanding words of insight;
for acquiring a discipline and prudent life,
doing what is right and just and fair;
for giving prudence to the simple,
knowlegde and discretion to the young ---
let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance ---
for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise

These six things the Lord hates
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.

Proverbs 6:16

Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
And the man who gains understanding;

Proverbs 3:13

(1) A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire;
He rages against all wise judgement.

But in expressing his own heart.
(3) When the wicked comes,
contempt comes also;
And with dishonor comes reproach.

But a man of understanding holds his peace.

But the lips of the wise will perserve them.

filled with his own ways,
But a good man will be satisfied
from above.

But he who hates correction is stupid.

Proverbs 12:1

The eyes of the Lord perserve knowledge,
But He overthrows the words of the faithless.

Proverbs 22:12

The ear that hears the rebukes of life,
Will abide among the wise.
32He who disdains instruction
despices his own soul,
But he who heeds rebuke gets understanding
33The fear of the Lord is the
instruction of wisdom,
And before honor is humility.

Wine is a mocker,
Strong drink is a brawler,
And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
