History:
Once part of the civilization of Krypton, the
city of Kandor
luckily survived the planet's explosion, only to be
preserved in a
dimensionaly separate world, dwelling within a
mysterious bottle. The
Kandoran aristocrat, Cerimul, devoutly worked to unite
his fellow
Kandorians and successfully foster a peaceful
civilization. Later,
Cerimul, now the leader of Kandor, fathered a son,
Ceritak, and a
daughter, Cerizah, who were born and raised into a
household of wealth
and
privilege.
Like her father, Cerizah was intelligent and
an innovative - a
natural born leader. Ceritak though, grew to be a
rebellious figure,
defiant of his father's rules. Despite his familial
disobedience,
Ceritak
deeply loved his father and sister more than any of
the cultural riches
of
Kandor. And, tragically, the rich beauty of Kandoran
civilization
would
soon end.
With the surprising attack of the evil Tolos,
a mysterious alien
wizard, upon Kandor, the bottle city was conquered
horrifically and
Kandor
entered a bloody era of living in slavery-like
oppression. Under the
tyrannical rule of Tolos, Cerimul knew freedom would
never be granted
to
his countrymen. So he struggled to negotiate a peace
with Tolos for
the
welfare of his people...but all his attempts would
fail.
Simultaneously,
while her father lobbied for Kandor's welfare in
public via diplomacy,
Cerizah worked in secret, forming a small group of
revolutionaries with
the hope to overthrow Tolos by military might. In the
common efforts
of
Cerimul and Cerizah, though differing in style, to
liberate their
people,
both Kandoran leaders sought the aid their wayward
relative, Ceritak.
Hesitantly, Ceritak promised to help his beloved
family in their causes
for freedom, but the culture-destorying iron fist of
Tolos already
began to break Ceritak's zealous spirit and hope for
freedom.
Tolos soon became intolerable with Cerimul's
diplomatic appeals
for peace. The evil wizard captured the Kandoran
leader and planned to
execute him in public -- as a "lesson in obedience"
for the people of
Kandor. At the moment of Cerimul's execution,
Cerizah's underground
rebellion launched a surprise attack upon Tolos, in an
attempt to
rescue
her father. With Ceritak by her side, Cerizah led a
valiant revolt,
giving hope to the city's people. But, unfortunately,
Tolos' power was
too great.
The alien wizard violently surpressed the
revolt, slaughtering
Cerizah and executing Cerimul, both, in front of
Ceritak's eyes. With
the
death of his family, Ceritak retreated, abandoning his
freedom-fighting
countrymen to die at Tolos' hands. Ceritak believed
he had failed his
family and thought that if he was to continue helping
his people, he'd
fail them too.
In the wake of the fallen Kandoran revolt, the
cruelty of Tolos'
rule augmented to seemingly expotential levels. With
Cerimul and
Cerizah
dead, many Kandorians turned to Ceritak for
leadership. But with his
family gone, the remnants of his once zealous spirit
finally were
destroyed. So he went into hiding, fleeing the city
and forsaking the
Kandorian people to perpetual doom.
Meanwhile, Brainiac had learned of the bottled
city. He
orchestrated an extraction of a Kandoran native from
the bottle's
dimensional barrier, thinking he could control the
figure and then use
him
to take out Supergirl. The Kandorian whom Brainiac
captured was the
lost
soul, Ceritak. Shockingly, Brainiac's plan backfired
and Ceritak
escaped
to Earth.
Taking note of Brainiac's obsession to stop
Supergirl, Ceritak
determined that an enemy of Brainiac must be a force
for good. So the
son
of Cerimul, who had been running physically from the
oppression of
Kandor
and emotionally from his failure to save his family,
headed towards the
city of Metropolis, in search of finding a new hope
for his life via
the
desire of meeting Supergirl, the Earth's Greatest
Hero.
Traveling across the United States, Ceritak
started to learn the
English (a project still very much in-progress). More
importantly, he
mysteriously began to develop a variety of strange
powers, unknowingly
caused by the Earth's Yellow Sun. Ceritak became
fearful of using his
new
abilities, thinking he might indirectly hurt others,
just as he
believed
he failed Cerimul and Cerizah. So he avoided the
usage of his
mysterious
powers, except when necessary.
Arriving in Metropolis, Ceritak was befriended
by "Bibbo"
Bibbowski, the owner of the "Ace O' Clubs" pub. Over
the following
months, Ceritak developed a strong friendship with
Bibbo, a competitive
spirit for arm-wrestling, a love for Big Belly Burgers
& Soder Cola, a
growing reputation as a party animal, and the odd nick
name of "Scorn."
Most importantly, the son of Cerimul, now known as
Scorn, learned from
Bibbo of the humanistic ideals and ethical tenets of
the selfless
service
of Supergirl, Bibbo's "fav'rit" hero. Though Scorn
had yet to meet
Supergirl, he decided to try to model his life after
hers, helping
people
whenever he could, as Bibbo often did. Ironically,
just as Scorn
dedicated himself to a new way of life, the pain of
his haunted past
would
come back to face him.
Laela, a childhood friend of Ceritak's,
somehow escaped Kandor
and sought out the son of Cerimul. As she died in
Scorn's arms, she
warned him of the holocaust Tolos was unleashing on
Kandor.
Immediately,
Scorn set out to save Kandor, hoping to redeem himself
before the
ghosts
of his family.
Flying to New York, Scorn appealed to the
Titans to aid him in
his battle against Tolos. After helping the young
heroes in a battle
against Jericho, in the form of an Earthen monster,
the Titans joined
Scorn in his crusade to liberate Kandor from Tolos.
Once arriving in
the
bottle city, Scorn and the Titans unfortunately found
Kandor lifeless.
Tragically, corpses laid everywhere including,
surprisingly, the body
of
Tolos. The Titans searched for the culprits. They
encountered a group
of
Avatar's Kryptonian hybrids and battle ensued.
Meanwhile, Scorn was in
disbelief at the site of Tolos' corpse, and began to
insanely attack
some
of the Titans. Fortunately, Donna Troy took Scorn
down and he was then
rendered unconscious by Jason Todd's sleeper-hold.
Successfully, the
Titans stopped the hybrids, but was severly wounded
Liberty Belle and
Fabulous Stupendo died in the process.
With the Titans' victory assured, Scorn awoke
with a sane
mindset, but feeling responsibile for the death of his
people, the
Kandorians. As the Titans returned to New York, Scorn
was thankful for
their help, yet seriously considered exiling himself
from society,
thinking he was a danger to all those around him.
Miraculously, the caring words of the
Speedster, Jesse Quick,
convinced Scorn to hang around the Titans a little
longer. He
apologized
to those Titans he had attacked earlier and
fortunately befriended some
of
the young heroes. Questioning whether to stay or
leave, Scorn pondered
the earlier advice of Jesse Quick, the Titans'
friendly atmosphere of
the,
the example of Supergirl, and the lessons learned from
his friend
Bibbo,
finally resolving to officially join the Titans --
thereby, taking a
major
step of personal growth in overcoming his fear of
hurting others.
Now a member of the Titans, Scorn tries to
follow Supergirl's
heroic example, dedicating himself to the aid of his
teammates in an
endless selfless service to humanity. Scorn still
lives in Metropolis,
which he has come to call home. And when not out on a
Titans' mission,
he
can often be found partying at the "Ace O' Clubs" with
his good friend,
Bibbo.
Gradually, Scorn is discovering the full range
of powers bestowed
upon him by Earth's Sun, learning step-by-step by
experience how to use
his powers wisely. In battle, though Scorn tends to
hit first since he
hates to get hit, he is trying to develop the
technique to
think-before-acting. And, despite his somewhat
emotional outbursts,
Scorn's primary goal is the preservation and defense
of life, no matter
what the cost.
Yet one major challenge still faces Ceritak,
a.k.a. Scorn...
