HISTORY: Rond Vidar was a celebrated student and researcher at
Metropolis'
Time Institute whose evil father, Vidar, was drummed out of the Green
Lantern Corps after coming into conflict with the Legion. Creating a
new
identity as Universo, master of hypnotism, Vidar tried to take revenge
on
the Legionaires but was thwarted at least in part by Rond, the only man
in
Metroplolis immune to Universo's powers. Rond's Time Cube device played
an
important role in his father's defeat.
Soon afterward, Rond was contacted by the Guardians of the Universe,
who
made him a Green Lantern in his father's place. They asked him to work
secretly since the UP had placed a ban on Green Lanterns, so Rond did
not
reveal his ring or powers to anyone. Later when Universo escaped and
used
his talent to control minds to put all of Earth under his hypnotic
control,
Rond again helped the Legion restore peace and capture Universo, for
which
he was made a Legionaire, though only an honorary one, due to his
"powerlessness," an irony not lost on Rond.
Rond continued his studies in time, though his next experiment proved
tragic: Prof. Jaxon Rugarth was changed by Rond's "hyper-time drive"
into
the Infinite Man, locked into a repeating cycle of time until Rond and
Brainiac 5 could find a way to cure him.
When Universo embarked on his latest plan for world domination, he had
his
son killed. However, the Lantern ring preserved his life---though just
barely. Rond awoke, healing, in the coffin in which he had been buried,
and
emerged to help the Legion when contacted by princess Projectra. Rond's
ressurection remained a mystery to his comrades until, in saving
Brainiac 5
from the Trapper, Rond revealed himself as a Green Lantern.
Granted full Legion status, Rond continues to work at the Time
Institute,
assisting the legionaires whenever the need arises. Rond fell in love
with
Laurel Gand a.k.a. Andromeda and the two married and had a daughter,
Lauren.
Recently the relationship has become strained, and the two have
separated.
While on a routine time experiment, Rond found himself losing control of the Time Bubble. To make things even worse, he travelled back too far--and came across some rather stern Linear Men. While they tried to arrest him for unlawful time travel, he tried to escape--ending up in 2020 A.D. on the planet Kranaltine, with a broken time bubble. Figurng he might find help on Earth, and learning another person on Kranaltine was also headed that way, he departed for Earth, and ended up joining that eras Legion.
