After tons of research, and after speaking with several knowledgeable people, I used several proven designs to come up with plans which anyone can take to a local machine shop, only to return days later and pick up a pair of legs.

This is what Philip (the owner of this beautiful Dragonfly) did. I sent my drawing to Phil, and he took them to a few different shops, and finally chose one. They did a fine job.

The design calls for using the aluminum anodized bolt on axles sold by Aircraft Spruce and Wicks. 5" Clevelands are specified, but any size tire can be used. The yoke dimension is variable for different sizes.

Wheels

I'm real happy with the way they came out.

The original article in the newsletter
called for the spring steel leg to be
18" long. This is what I specified on
my plan, and what we installed.
The photo below shoes that perhaps
18" is a tad bit too long. We ended up
cutting off 4". We still have 4" prop
clearance in the tail high position,
with 2flat tires, swinging a 58" prop.

Phil

Here's a photo of Phil sitting in the cockpit.
His expression confirms that the gear is a bit tall.
