Many of you from the chat room have asked me how Chiropractic has helped me and for the specifics as to how Chiropractic can help TS. Since I'm not a chiropractor, I decided to ask one of my closest friends who happens to be a chiropractor whom I trust with my neck and life. Below is what he had to say:
TS, being a neurologic disorder and Chiropractic dealing with the nervous system, more specifically interferences upon the nervous system, is able to help with TS in a variety of ways.
TS is involved with the corticospinal tracts (extra pyramidal) which connect the cerebral cortex (brain) with lower motor centers via a few synapses. The cerebellum, which is the center for motor coordination, lies at the back of the brainstem, close to the upper cervical spine, and a subluxation (a misalignment of the vertebra - creating nerve pressure) can cause an altered function of those lower motor centers.
A Chiropractic adjustment can remove the subluxation and remove any obstructions to healing. The correction of the subluxation can also increase the blood flow to the brain and allow for better circulation, which in turn can affect the chemistry at those levels. Not to mention the benefit of total circulation in dealing with the prescription drugs that the body is subjected to, as well as the function of the kidneys and liver.
Chiropractic can help with the overall functioning of the body to deal with the problem, as well as to try to help some of the factors that may be causing or exacerbating the problem. Since it is difficult to know what exactly is the cause of TS, I throw this question to some people. If its possible that vaccines and immunizations may cause many neurological diseases, could it have any affect on the onset of TS symptoms? Something to think about for any future parents.
But in short, by improving the function of the nerves in and around the brainstem, which lies within the first two cervical vertebra in part, the nervous system can be profoundly affected by a subluxation, which only a Chiropractor can "adjust." We do not manipulate like MD's and DO's as well as some PT's. And any worries about the danger of an adjustment are highly exaggerated, not to say that there haven't been any. If anyone needs help locating a good DC, and if I can help locate one for you, I will do my best to find one. But if not. please try to get one that is not a "medipractor," for your sake and mine. Medicine and Chiropractic are completely separate and opposite in thinking. Health comes from the inside out, and not from the outside in.
That's it in a nutshell.
Chiropractically Yours,
