I sat down beside my mother and ate my dinner quitely, I guess I was playing with my food and daydreaming because my mom asked me something.

"huh? What? Oh I'm sorry mom I didn't hear you." I apologized.

"I was asking is there something the matter? You sure are being quiet today." I gave a small smile and shook my head.

"No mom, I'm fine." She nodded her head and started to talk to Mrs. Dorough. I listened to the conversation this time. I didn't think it could get any worse that day until my mom had yet another brilliant idea.

"Howie, I understand you like to go to clubs?" My mom asked. Howie nodded.

"Yeah, whenever I have time I try to go to one." My mom smiled. Then Mrs. Dorough cut in.

"Betty, weren't you saying that Nicole hasn't really been around the city? I'm sure Howie wouldn't mind taking Nicole to a club sometime soon, it'd be good for her to get a little and have fun." My eyes opened wide.

"Oh that would be wonderful! But is it ok with you Howie?" My mom asked. Howie looked at me and noticed I covered my face with my hands.

"Of course it would be ok, I would love to get to know your daughter more. But is it ok with Nicole?" Howie asked to my mom, but it was directed to me. I couldn't say anything so I just nodded my head.

"Great, what about tomorrow?" He asked, I nodded. I excused myself from the table and went to my room. I stayed up there most of the time, going back down once in awhile to be nice. At about 10, they decided to leave.

"Thank you so much for having us over." Howie said graciously, "I had a wonderful time." My mom smiled and said it was no problem. He then turned towards me.

"Thank you for having me over, I had a great time." He whispered. I shook my head.

"Pleasure's all mine." He smiled and kissed my hand.

"Goodbye Nicole. Remember tomorrow night. I'll pick you up at 8." I nodded a reply and watched them leave. I didn't know why but I called out the door.

"Howie." He turned around. "I'm really glad you came over tonight. Goodbye." He smiled.

"Me too." Howie said, "Me too."
