January 8 - Basic Class (7:00 pm to 7:30 pm) – Business meeting and library open; (7:30 pm to 8:00 pm) Class Instruction - topics are Chokkan (formal upright) and Moyogi (informal upright) styles of bonsai, and Winter Care; (8:30 pm to 10:00 pm) Workshop.

January 15 - Joint Meeting (7:00 pm to 10:00 pm) Potluck Dinner and Installation of Officers for 2001. At the potluck dinner there will be pots and stands from the estate of former member Phil Hermann for sale.
January 29 - Intermediate Class (7:00 pm to 7:30 pm) business meeting and library open; (7:30 pm to 8:00 pm) Class instruction topic - Winter Care in General and this year's project; (8:00 pm to 10:00 pm) Workshop.

Carpooling from Montgomery Wards parking lot on Monument Boulevard departing at 7:30 am. Signups and detailed information will be available at the January 8 and 15 meetings.
Club News
Starting in January there will be separate meeting dates for the basic and intermediate classes from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. There will be joint, basic/intermediate classes scheduled in March, June, August and December. As a reminder to everyone, bring a piece of plastic to cover the table during workshop and bring a tree to work on. Also before you leave, clean-up around your table and help put away the tables and chairs at the end of class. The two rows of tables and chairs on the south end of the room have to be put away.

The 2001 Schedule of Activities was finalized in the December Board Meeting and will be distributes with the February Newsletter. We would like to finalize the club memberhsip roster in February as well and get it distributed to the membership. If you haven't paid your dues yet, please use the form at the end of this newsletter and mail a check to Tom Fong by January 31st.
New members should attend the field trip on January 27, as it will be an opportunity to buy bonsai material for the first potting session scheduled for February 10th. You can also get material for your personal use in class. Experienced members of the club will be on the field trip as well to help you select material.
