November 2005 Newsletter

November Meetings:

Club meetings are in the Rotary Room, on the lower level of the Heather Farms Garden Center,Walnut Creek. Meetings are usually held on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, from 7:30PM to 9:30PM. A ramp leading to the lower level is to the left of the Main Building Entrance off the parking lot. Vehicular access to the lower level, for members, disabled or with very large trees to carry, is open at the far end of the parking lot

Meetings start at 7:30PM with a brief business meeting, and end at 9:30PM. Please be ready to meet at 7:30PM.

Bring plant material appropriate to the class topic for the workshop. Working on the tree in the style discussed aids in understanding the lecture and the style.

Wednesday - Nov 9th - Basic Class Meeting. 7:30 - 9:30PM.
                   Lecture 7:30-8:00PM. Review the year. Discuss transplanting.
                   Workshop 8:00-9:30PM
                   Refreshments - Lois Naye. Assist with the close Sylvia Roemer.

Wednesday - Nov 16th - Intermediate Class Meeting. 7:30-9:30PM.
                    Lecture 7:30-8:00PM - Discuss soil formulation.
                    Workshop 8:00-9:30PM.
                    Refreshments - Byron Nobriga. Assist with close - Jim Stalker

From the President:

In November we will have the regular two meetings, then in December there will be a joint meeting on Dec. 14, the second Wednesday, as originally scheduled.

Attendance by all members is even more important now through the the Spring show at the end of April 2006. Your support is greatly appreciated. In December, in addition to electing officers for the year 2006, we will also be organizing the committees for the Spring Show.

VERY IMPORTANT, We will vote at the December meeting for new Cub Officers for the 2006 year. Most of the current officers have been in their positions for an unusually long time. We have four positions to fill:

President- Presides at the Board meetings and handles administrative matters not specified for the other offices.

1st Vice President - Presides in the absence of the President. Assists with programming and membership matters.

Treasurer- Handles the receipt of income, writes checks for expenses, records all financial transactions and maintains the Clubs financial records.

Recording/Corresponding Secretary- Takes notes at the Board meetings and publishes them to the Board and membership, maintains the Board records and handles the Club correspondence.

Newsletter Editor- Prepares the monthly Club newsletter and sends it to the members and maintains the Club Website.

We need you to volunteer. Contact any member of the Board by November, at the latest, to express your preference or ask questions about the positions. We know everyone has limits on their time but the club cannot continue to function without the efforts of everyone.

Diablo Bonsai Club Look Ahead Schedule

Tuesday, Dec. 6th Board Meeting, Charlotte Wood School, Danville. 7:30PM.

Wednesday, Dec. 14th - Joint Class Meeting. Elect Officers for 2006. Lecture 7:30-8:00PM - Bring all projects of the year. 8:00-9:30PM - Workshop. Refreshments - Sylvia Roemer and James Stalker. Assist with closing - Jon and Katie Wheat.

November 11 & 12, Ross Marin Bonsai Club Fall bonsai Show at the Marin Art and Garden Center, 30 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Show hours are 6PM-9PM Friday and 10AM-5PM Saturday. Critique by Ted Matson on Friday, 6PM-9PM and demo by Ted Matson on Saturday at 1PM. Tree will be raffled.
