January 2006 Newsletter

January Meetings:

2006 Club Dues are due. Information and forms are attached.

Starting January 2006 all meetings will be Joint meetings and will be in the large upstairs room at the Heather Farm Garden Center, Walnut Creek. Meetings are scheduled on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 7:30PM to 9:30PM.

Meetings start at 7:30PM with a brief business meeting, and end at 9:30PM.
Please be ready to meet at 7:30PM.

Tuesday - January 10th Board Meeting, Charlotte Wood School, Danville.
   7:30PM.

Saturday, January 14th & 21st. 9:30AM Potting sessions at Tassajara Nursery.

Wednesday - January 18th - Joint Class Meeting. Lecture 7:30PM - 8:00PM,
                      Fundamentals of bonsai styles. Care of bonsai in the Winter.
                      8:00-9:30PM - Workshop.
                      Refreshments and Assist with cleanup and close -

From the President:

Election of the Board for the year 2006 was held at the December Club meeting. A 2006 Club Roster is attached. To all who served during 2005 and for those who are newly serving or who have agreed to serve another year a bigThank You, the Club could not function without your good work.

A copy of the 2006 Club Schedule is also attached. This will also be posted on the Club website. Note that the 2006 Schedule provides for five potting sessions
in January, February and March to assist in preparing your show and donation trees for the Club Spring Show in April.

Diablo Bonsai Club Look Ahead Schedule

Saturday - February 4th & 18th. 9:30AM Potting sessions at Tassajara Nursery.

Tuesday - February 7th Board Meeting, Charlotte Wood School, Danville.
  7:30PM.

Wednesday - February 15th - Joint Class Meeting. Lecture 7:30-8:00PM - Moyogi, sokan & shakan (informal, dual trunk & slanting) styles. Soil root & transplanting.
Bring show trees.
8:00-9:30PM - Workshop.
Refreshments - Blanche Weston and Bob Brown.

January 14-15 , Hayward Bay Island Bonsai 7th Anniversary show “An Exhibit of Fine Bonsai” at Centennial Hall, 22292 Foothill Blvd. Hours are 10AM– 4 PM both days. $3 admission. Free parking. Guided tours of the exhibit. Auction of quality bonsai and suiseki on Saturday: Preview at noon, auction at 1PM.

January 28-29 , Oakland Bay Area Bonsai Associates 25th Annual Bonsai Exhibit at Lakeside Garden Center (Lake Merritt), 666 Bellevue Ave. Show hours are Saturday 5:30PM-9PM and Sunday 10AM-4PM. David De Groot, director and curator of Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection, will demonstrate on Saturday evening. Exhibit and plant sale opens at 5:30PM and the raffle will be at 9PM.

Diablo Bonsai Club Annual Dues

The Diablo Bonsai Club annual dues are now owing. If you have not already paid, please fill out the following form and a check made out to: Diablo Bonsai Club and mail it to: Rebecca Harris1711 Comstock Drive, Walnut Creek, CA 94595 or bring it to the January meeting.
The Treasurer and others who process the payments and club records are volunteers, they need and deserve your cooperation. Any who do not pay dues before or at the January Meeting (Jan 11, 2006) will not be eligible to participate in Club activities after that meeting. If it is necessary to pay at a later date please contact the Club President Jim Stalker or the Club Treasurer Rebecca Harris and make arrangements.
