June 2008 Newsletter

June Meetings

Meetings are held in the large upstairs room at the Heather Farm Garden Center, Walnut Creek, and are scheduled on the 3rd and 4th Wednesday of the month, from 7:30PM to 9:30PM.  Meetings start at 7:30PM with a brief business meeting, and end at 9:30PM.
Please be ready to meet at 7:30PM.

No Board Meeting this month.

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 - 7:30pm.  Basic Class Meeting.
                                            Lecture 7:30-8:00pm - Review bonsai styles learned thus far  Bring all styles to workshop.
                                            Workshop 8:00 - 9:30.
                                            Refreshments and help with cleanup and close: Sharon Mosbaugh.

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 - 7:30pm.  Intermediate Class Meeting.
                                            Lecture 7:30-8:00pm - Discuss concerns of feeding, soil and location.
                                            Workshop 8:00 - 9:30.
                                            Refreshments and help with cleanup and close: Jim Merrill.

 Notes

Trees Donated to the Club - About 15 small Liquidambar and Japanese Maples, in one-gallon pots, have been donated to the club.  These trees will be available  at the Tassajara Nursery beginning on Saturday, May 31st, to any interested member, free of charge.

No July Newsletter - There will be no newsletter for the month of July.  Look for the next newsletter in early August.

Bay Area Satsuki Aikokai 14th Annual Satsuki Bonsai Show at the Lakeside Park Garden Center, 666 Bellevue Ave. Hours are 10AM-5PM, Saturday and 10AM-4PM, Sunday. Demonstration at 1:30PM each day using mature trees; conducted on Saturday by Rick Garcia, and on Sunday by Johnny Uchida. Large selection of trees on sale. Monterey Bonsai Club:  44th Annual Exhibition at the Monterey Buddhist Temple in Seaside at 1150 Noche Buena.  Show hours are 11AM-4PM.  Demonstration at 1:30PM by Katsumi Kinoshita.  Sales area will include bonsai, pots and plants.

Saturday - Sunday June 7-8, San Mateo, California
Sei Boku Bonsai Kai 25th Annual Show at the San Mateo Garden Center, 605 Parkside Way, San Mateo, CA. Admission is free. Hours are 10 am to 4:30 pm both days. Demonstrations 12 Noon-3PM by Gordon Deeg (Saturday) and John Thompson (Sunday). Door prizes, Dr. Bonsai tree clinic, vendor sales and member plant and pot sales.
