Diablo Bonsai Club June 2011 Newsletter

Member Projects - For this month each member has been asked to bring in a formal and informal upright into class to work on. K will demonstrate informal in front of the class. Each class member then will work on their own formal and informal upright tree throughout the year and bring to class for K to evaluate month-to-month progress and the development of the trees. Members can also bring in any other materials to class if the individual wants help on any type or style of their own trees. Please participate; it will be interesting to see how well we do in one year's time.

Membership - Our club needs new members! If you have any ideas on how we might increase our membership, let us know. And if you know anyone who might be interested in bonsai, bring them with you to one of our upcoming meetings.

Saturday - Sunday, June 4-5 - San Mateo, California
Sei Boku Bonsai Kai: 28th Annual Show at the San Mateo Garden Center, 605 Parkside Way, next to Beresford Park. Hours are 10AM-4PM, with demonstrations from 1-3PM both days. Saturday demonstration will be by Steve Jang, and Sunday by John Thompson (JT). Door prizes, vendor sales, and member plant sales will be featured. There will also be ‘Dr. Bonsai’ to answer questions regarding bonsai care. Admission is free. For more information contact khaley57@gmail.com

Monterey Bonsai Club 48th Annual Exhibition at the Monterey Buddhist Temple in Seaside at 1150 Noche Buena. Show hours are 11AM-4PM. Demonstration at 1:30PM by Katsumi Kinoshita. Sales area will include bonsai, pots and plants. For more information, email Joe Byrd

Bay Area Satsuki Aikokai: Annual Satsuki Azalea Show at the Lakeside Garden Center, 666 Bellevue Avenue. Hours are Saturday, 10AM-5PM, and Sunday, 10AM-4PM. Demonstrations at 1:30PM, featuring Rick Garcia on Saturday, and Johnny Uchida on Sunday. Sales area and benefit drawings. Free admission to the show. Saturday - Sunday, June 25-26 - Jackson, California
The Amador Bonsai Society: 15th Annual Show and Plant Sale will be held on at the Amador Senior Center, 229 New York Ranch Road. Hours are Saturday 9AM-4PM, and Sunday 11AM-4PM. This is our first indoor show. Demonstration 1:30PM both days, and a raffle will follow. Admission is free and we ask that you bring a non-perishable donation for the Amador Food Bank.
