Paul states in Romans9:1 "I say the truth in Christ, I lie not..." This statement is like us swearing in court "to tell the whole truth, so help me God."
In Luke 1:1-4, Luke states that he was writing "to set forth in order a declaration...that thou mightest know the certainty of those things..."
John21:24 says "This is the disciple which testifieth of these things: and we know his testimony is true."
They are saying in these statements that they are giving a truthful testimony. We could even consider what they wrote to be their "sworn depositions."
John 4:42 states "Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."
This tells us they were not giving hearsay evidence, they were eyewitnesses. Hearsay evidence is not admissible in court, but eyewitness testimony is.
