Chapter 1: Leaving Home

"I can't believe it!" I exclaimed to my best friend, Sarah, as we were walking home from school on that warm, sunny afternoon. "It is so unfair!"
"You should of known your mom would be like this." Sarah replied with a strange tone in her voice. "I know, but it's still unfair." I whined. I'm Leah Ketchum and today had been the worst day of my life. I had just found out this morning that my brother, Ash, would get to start Pokémon training next week and I wouldn't just because I am a girl. And to top it off I found out today during school that the biggest jerk in the world, Gary Oak, has a crush on me. It was final, I had decided that I was going to run away from home to become a Pokémon master all by myself. School went by so slow that week. Everyone was talking about how cool it was that my brother would be starting Pokémon training in just a week. Even though I'm younger than my brother, who's 10, (I'm only 8 and a ˝) everyone always says I'm much more mature than him. I was packed and ready to go. Tonight was the night that I was running away. I would miss Sarah so much, but this was something that I just had to do. I had told Prof. Oak the day before that my mom was okay with the fact that I was leaving home. He had given me a PokéDex and a starting Pokémon, Charmander. I left in a flourish that night and camped out right outside Pallet Town. I waved farewell to my hometown and all the great memories that it had given me to think about.

Chapter 2: On to Viridian City

I awoke at the break of dawn the next morning and asked Mew, who I had gotten as a gift from Gary, I guess he's not all bad, for my 5th birthday, and Charmander what they wanted for breakfast. Charmander wanted roast meat and Mew wanted herbal tea. All I wanted was for them to agree. I made both of those things for them and I had eggs. As soon as we were done we trooped onward to Viridian City. It was a long, hot day from traveling and my feet ached at the end of the day. We crashed for the night next to a clean, sparkling river. The next day I made it to Viridian City in the middle of the afternoon. You'd expect me to be happy, but I wasn't. I couldn't believe how stupid I had been. I had forgotten to bring my Pokéballs with me. As I stumbled into the PokéMon center I asked Nurse Joy if she'd heal my Pokémon. "Sure," she replied happily. A little too happily if you ask me. After my Pokémon were all healed and I was refreshed I walked over to the PokéMart and bought five Pokéballs with the little amount of money I had remembered to bring. I saw Ash walk into town later that day while we were exploring town. I was very careful to avoid him. I camped next to the Viridian Forest that night. I guess I would have to catch my first Pokémon tomorrow. Oh well.

Chapter 3: Leah Catches a Pokémon

"Yes!" I cried, leaping in the air with joy. "I did it! I caught Weedle!" I was so happy. I had finally caught my first Pokémon. "Weedle, a poisonous Pokémon with a venomous stinger on its head. Beware of this Pokémon, for it is much more dangerous than the gentle Caterpie," said Dexter, my PokéDex, in a monotone voice. "Wow. I'm glad I caught Weedle instead of Caterpie." I said excitedly. We trooped onward through the dense forest. I kept a close lookout for anyone I might know. "Wahahahaha!" said a strange voice. "Ahhhhhh!" I screamed. A strange trio had appeared in front of me. I recognized them, they were Laura, Larry, and Ditto from Team Rocket. "Here comes trouble." Laura said. "Make it double." said Larry. "To cause the world great devastation." Laura said. "To join everyone within our nation." said Larry. "We announce all evils of truth and love." Laura said. "We reach to the sky straight above." said Larry. "Laura." "Larry." "Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light." They both said. "If you surrender now, we won't fight." They both said. "Ditto." "We're right." They both said. "Oh, it's you," I said sarcastically. "I'm not scared of jerks." "Okay then, let's make this a battle. If we win, then we get to keep your Mew," demanded Larry. "Fine then," I replied confidently. I knew I could win. "Grimer! Go!" yelled Larry. "Go, Bellsprout!" screamed Laura. "Come on out, Charmander." I calmly said. "Charmander, round em' up with Fire Spin!" "No!" they cried out in unison. They knew they were beaten. "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off!" they shrieked. "Good job Charmander," I complimented. "Return." That night I slept under a huge willow tree in my sleeping bag. I couldn't wait to get out of this stupid forest.

Chapter 4: I'm Finally Out of This Stupid Forest!

"Go, Weedle!" I said. I was battling a Bug Catcher. He sent out Metapod. "Metapod, Harden," commanded the Bug Catcher. "Weedle, use your Poison Sting attack," I told him. "Yes, your Metapod is no match against my Weedle! I win!" "Oh yeah, just wait until next time, we'll meet again. I will win next time 'cause I'll have a Butterfree," replied the Bug Catcher. Then he left. I looked over at Weedle. He was glowing! "What!? Weedle is evolving!" I exclaimed. "Weedle evolved into Kakuna." Now that I had a new Pokémon, I had more confidence than ever before. I knew there was some special bond that I shared with my Pokémon that I would never underestimate. As I continued walking I spotted something rustling in the bushes. I ran over to see what it was. "A Pikachu! Wow!" I whispered so that I wouldn't scare it away. "Charmander! Go!" I told him. Pikachu now had realized I was here and obviously wasn't too happy about it. Pikachu used Thundershock on Charmander. Luckily, Charmander didn't faint. I told him to use Scratch. Pikachu had just a little bit of health left. "Pokéball! Go!" I yelled. Pikachu tried to break free, but didn't succeed. "Yes! I got another new Pokémon" I exclaimed. I looked to the north. "Look, there it is, in the distance, the way out of this stupid forest!" I exclaimed. "We'll finally be in Pewter City. Then I can challenge Brock and win my first badge, the Boulder Badge," I said with relief. We reached Pewter City in the late afternoon. I was so happy to be out of that stupid forest.

Chapter 5: Battling With Brock

"Nurse Joy, will you please heal my Pokémon?" I asked politely. "Sure," she replied. After my Pokémon were healed, I went directly to Brock's Gym. I knew he used Rock-type Pokémon, so Pikachu's attacks wouldn't effect them. Charmander and Kakuna would be weak against the Rock-type so I wouldn't use them in battle. Mew would have a large advantage against the Rock-type Pokémon, so I would use Mew while battling Brock. "So, you wish to challenge me, the great Brock of Pewter City?" Brock asked. "Yes," I said confidently. "Okay, but I'll have you know, I will not lose." "Go, Mew!" I said. "Geodude, go!" Brock commanded. "Mew, use your Egg Bomb attack!" I ordered. "Geodude, return." Brock reluctantly said. "Go Onix!" "Mew, Psychic!" I commanded. Onix fainted! I had won my first gym battle, no sweat! "Congratulations, Leah. You have earned the Boulder Badge. Also, take my favorite TM. It's TM 34. TM 34 contains Bide. Bide causes your Pokémon to lose 2 or 3 turns, then pays back the damage received double," Brock congratulated. "Thanks," I replied, "but I'd better get going. Bye." Since I had beaten Brock, I could go on to Cerulean City. But I knew it would be tough to get there, because I would have to get through Mt. Moon.

Chapter 6: What!? Charmander is Evolving!

"That look you gave me was so intriguing," said the Lass dreamily. "Pidgey, go!" she said, with a sudden change of heart. "Go, Charmander!" I ordered. "Give 'em your Ember attack!" "Pidgey, Gust!" commanded Lass. "Charmander, Scratch!" I yelled. "Return, Pidgey," she said reluctantly. "I beat you and I only have one badge," I bragged. "Well, I think you'll make a wonderful Pokémon master." she complimented. "Thanks," I said, "but if that's ever gonna happen I'd better get going."

Later that day we encountered no other than the unforgettable Team Rocket. "What do you want this time?" I asked sarcastically. "We want the Mew." Laura answered. "And now," Larry said, "here comes trouble." Laura finished. "All right then, let's have another battle," I replied. "Fine!" they said in unison. "Charmander, go!" I ordered. "Grimer! Go!" yelled Larry. "Go, Bellsprout! Use your Wrap attack." screamed Laura. "Grimer, Sludge!" Larry commanded. "Charmander, Flamethrower," I yelled over all the commotion. Mew sat worriedly at my feet. "Huh, what the?" Laura said. Charmander had fainted both of their Pokémon at once! "Looks like Team Rocket is blasting off again!" They both said. "What!? Charmander is evolving! Charmander evolved into Charmeleon!" I exclaimed.
