Sports
This is my sports page. At Leland, I participate in volleyball and cross country.
So I'll just talk about those. If anybody wrote a sports article and would like to have
it posted here, email it to me and we'll consider if its worth being on my crappy
page. Most likely it will be, cuz this page is really crappy. However I'm sure
that the Leland Cross Country
page will be a lot better and more informative than this one. Volleyball
is too lazy to make a page.
Cross Country
Cross Country had a decent season in 1997. Boys' Varsity definitely did not
reach the level they were at last year. However, they ended up taking 5th in
Mount Hamilton Athletic League (MHAL). Girls' Varsity did great and ended up
1st in MHAL. Boys' frosh/soph did quite well, taking 2nd in MHAL behind Del Mar.
In the first year of JV being scored, Boys' JV took 1st in MHAL. I had a pretty
good year, doing a lot better than freshman year. I was one of the top JV
runners, but unfortunately in midseason I got a little tendonitis in my hamstring
and ended up getting burned by everyone. OK OK, so I didn't run in 1998, so I don't
have the results from the 1998 season. If you're interested, go check out the cross

Volleyball
In 1998, volleyball had a very similar season to '97. JV kicked butt and Varsity
died. Varsity got off to a great start in the preseason and early on in the
regular season. However, towards the 2nd half of the season they just ran out
of gas and did not qualify for CCS. JV looked very shaky in the beginning.
Jesse Camacho and I were the only two returning players and the situation did
not look too good after loosing just about all our preseason games. However
that is exactly what happened last year and we ended up taking first in league.
So the two lone returning players and captains knew that the situation could
be turned around. We ended up winning all our games, except the two against
Los Gatos. The second Los Gatos game was extremely close, with us losing 2-1, and
the score in the last game was 16-14. So we lost again to Los Gatos and settled
for 2nd in league.
In 1999, I played on varsity and we had an awesome year.
We made it to CCS and got to the quarterfinals. JV had a much
tougher season. Hm... there seems to be a pattern... I am on
JV... we get 1st then 2nd in league... I'm on varsity... we make
CCS... do you see it? Hehe, just kidding. I'm not that good at
volleyball. I'm basically a "back row specialist", a nice name
for someone who is too short and can't jump so only plays in the back
row. But nevertheless, it was fun.
its 2000 now, i didnt play volleyball this year. i totally should have though... team sports is
great and i encourage every high schooler to try it. i am now attending berkeley and im not
sure what sports im gonna try. intramurals offer a wide variety of stuff. i may continue volleyball,
i may try something new. well, ill update this when i decide!
