Brian Jacques
Brian Jacques has written an enormously popular (and just plain enormous) series generally known as just 'The Redwall books.' I've been a bit lax in keeping up with them lately, but I believe they go generally in this order (not chronological, but rather the order Jacques wrote them): Redwall, Mattimeo, Mossflower, Mariel of Redwall, Martin the Warrior, The Bellmaker, Salamandastrom, Outcast of Redwall, The Pearls of Lutra, The Long Patrol, Marlfox, and Legend of Luke. Basically, they're adventure stories based in Redwall Abbey starring heroic mice and other beasts, dastardly rats (or ferrets, stoats, snakes, cats, etc.), mouthwateringly described feasts, legends, swords, ghosts, and mysteries. In other words, just about everything. They're always readable, but the formula tends to get a little old if you read too many too quickly. Still, if you want your heroes heroic and your villains thoroughly wicked, give these a try.
