Susan Fletcher is a young adult writer I quite like. She has written:
THE DRAGON CHRONICLES
This is a trilogy consisting of Dragon's Milk, Flight of the Dragon Kyn, and Sign of the Dove. It's an interesting look at the traditional mythology of dragons, and rather than making dragons seem overly harsh or overly cutsey, they're draw realistically (for dragons, of course). The second book is actually a prequel to the first, and the third follows the first by a few years. They stand up well by themselves, particularly the first and second books.
SHADOW SPINNER
This is basically an interesting interpretation of the traditional Arabian Scheherezade (I know I butchered the spelling) story starring a young, crippled girl as the true heroine.
