It’s hard to smile
When tears block the way.
When pain goes on endlessly
And happiness does not stay.
It’s hard to imagine
All the tears that I have cried
All the smiles lost inside
All the hope I’ve lost along the way.
It’s hard to believe
When people say they love you,
When they say they’re there for you,
But in the end they leave the heart so lonely.
It’s hard to see
A heart so wounded
A heart so buried
In the tears it has cried.
It’s hard to hear
When someone says “let me go”
When they want to die so badly,
But you still say no.
It’s hard to feel
Loneliness you’ve never felt,
Pain you’ve never experienced,
And yet you say “It’ll be okay”
It’s hard to find the words
To express love for someone
When you know you’ve treated them so wrong
And you still can’t find the love they’ve given all along.
It’s hard to let go
Of someone you love so much
Of happiness never known
Of smiles, now so grim and barren.
It’s hard to be the one
To love someone so much,
To care for them with all you’ve got.
But it still seems like not enough for them to touch.
But it’s harder in every way
To be the one with the incomprehensible pain,
And no one to understand and say “okay.”
