Kevin, Howie, A.J., Nick and Brian were standing backstage at Live With Regis and Kathy Lee, preparing to tell the world that the Backstreet Boys was ending.
"This isn't going to change our friendship, is it?" asked Nick, a bit worried.
"Of course not. First, we all live in Orlando so we can get together any time and second, we've been living together for 9 years and we've become family," said Kevin.
"And you never forget family," added Howie.
"It's going to be kind of nice not to wake up to the smell of Nick's socks," teased Brian. Nick gave him a dirty look.
"Ya, now Dest will get to wake up to that," laughed A.J., putting on his favorite pair of sunglasses.
"You guys are so mean to me," said Nick, shaking his head in disgust.
"Changing the conversation back to what we were disgussing," said Kevin, rolling his eyes. "Are we prepared to do this?"
Brian took a deep breath. "I'm ready. I wanna have a life again. A life with Melody," he smiled.
Howie checked his watch. "This should be calling us to come on any minute," he said.
Just then, a man opened their door. "Come Backstreet Boys. It's time to go on," said the man.
"Let's go disapoint the world," sighed A.J., as they stood up.
A few minutes later, the guys walked onto the stage, to be welcomed by screams from fans. Regis and Kathie Lee shook their hands and they sat down.
"We're very happy that you boys could join us again," smiled Kathie, once the fans had stopped screaming and everyone had sat down.
"Well, we're happy to be here," said Howie.
"So what's new in your lives since we last talked to you?" asked Regis.
"Not too much," said Nick, a bit nervous. They had all decided that them ending the Backstreet boys would shock the fans enough and it would hurt the fans even more if they knew that Nick and Desteny had twins.
"We've been really busy touring and thinking about our future," said A.J., trying to ease into their big anouncement.
"What about you're future?" asked Kathie.
Brian took a deep breath. He had been chosen to be the one to tell the fans. "We've decided that we're all starting lives of our own and getting into serious relationships. But touring has made keeping them really hard. So we're decided that the Backstreet Boys will stop touring and go our seperate ways," he said.
A lot of fans gasped in surprise and some burst into tears. But either than that, the studio was silent.
"Well," said Regis, not too sure what to say. "That certainly was a surprise. Ahh...when will be your last concert then?"
"Our concert that we had scedualed in Toronto, Canada on Saterday will be our last concert. We've planned it to be our best show yet," said Howie.
"Well, we definatly wish you the best. We'll be back with the Backstreet Boys after these commercials," said Katie, trying not to look surprised.
The guys sat uncomfortably in their stools as they looked out at the unhappy faces of their fans. 'This is going to be a long interview,' they all thought.
Desteny, Melody and Lacey had just finished watching the guys on Regis and Kathie Lee in Nick and Desteny's apartment.
"I think it's safe to say that the fans didn't like the guys announcement very much," frowned Lacey.
"What did you expect them to do? Jump up and cheer?" asked Desteny, sitting Jem up in her lap.
"Not exsactly. I guess it's a normal reaction," said Melody. "Still, I feel kind of guilty. I mean, we are part of the reason that their spliting up. So that Brian, Kevin and Nick can be with us."
"Let's just not think about that," said Desteny, frowning at that thought.
Just then, the phone rang. Desteny handed Jem to Melody who already had Tyler and got up to answer the phone.
"Hello?" she asked.
"Hey babe. It's me," said Nick's voice.
"Hi sweetie. How was the interview?" Desteny asked.
"Didn't you watch it? It was horrible!" groaned Nick.
Desteny laughed. "It wasn't that bad."
"Yes it was! The fans didn't hear anything after we said that we were breaking up," said Nick sadly.
"But you're not breaking up! You're still going to be friends and get together. You're just not going to be The Backstreet Boys anymore. You're going to be Nick, Brian, Kevin, A.J. and Howie again," said Desteny.
Nick sighed. "I guess so. If only the fans could see that. Anyways, when are you leaving to drive up to Toronto?" he asked, changing the subject.
"We're leaving tomorrow morning at about 9:30 am. So we should get there either late Thursday night ot early Friday morning," said Desteny.
"Well, we start touring in Canada tomorrow so I won't talk to ya until you get to Toronto," said Nick, getting sad.
"Desteny! You still have to finish packing before we can leave tomorrow," reminded Melody, interupting their conversation.
Desteny gave her a dirty look. "Sorry, but I better go. Tyler and Jem were up all night last night so I slept today and forgot to pack," said Desteny.
Nick laughed. "Well, I better let you go them. I'll see you in Toronto," he said.
"Ok. I love you," Desteny said.
"I love you too," smiled Nick, as they hung up.
Melody and Lacey smiled at her. Melody stuck her finger down her throght and pretended to gag herself in disgust.
Desteny glared at them. "Excuse me. I have to pack," she said, turning up her nose at her friends as they laughed.
