15 minutes later, the foursome met at the mounting block. Melody was on Midnight Trouble. Desteny was on Magicbeauty. Nick (who had done some riding before) was on a frisky gelding called Sunbright. Brian was on a calm yet enerjetic mare name Cocoa. Then all mounted and set off. They all started at an easy walk.
Desteny quickly felt at home in the english saddle. She hadn't been in a saddle for a long time thanks to her fall. It felt good to be back.
The four of them talk a lot, then they decided to pick it up into a trot. Magicbeauty, Sunbright and Cocoa had smooth trots but Melody found out Midnight Trouble was not only hard to control but had the bounciest trot she had ever ridden. She definatly had her hands full. Midnight Trouble whinnied loudly and tossed his head.
"Sounds like Midnight is feeling his oats today," laughed Desteny, pulling Magic up a bit as Magic tried to leap forward.
"And I'm starting to a lot more tham oats too," mummered Melody, refering to her butt. She tightened up on the reins again. Everyone laughed.
"Hey there's a flat piece of land up ahead. Do you guys want to canter?" asked Desteny.
"Sure," answered Melody. Nick and Brian nodded.
Desteny signaled Magic to canter and she leaped forward. One by one, they signaled their horses to canter. Brian noticed that Melody was starting to tire from holding Midnight back and he told the others to slow down. They slowed to a walk. Melody gathered her breath and asked "Do you think we could head back now. I'm getting really tired from trying to control him."
"Sure, let's go back," said Nick. They turned their horses back. When the stable was in view, but still far away, the horses started to act nervous. As they got passed the trees, they heard a scream.
"It's Nick and Brian!"
About 2 dozen girls befan to run and scream towards the horses.
Cocoa tossed her head and with white eyes, began to back up. Sunbright whinnied and began too spin around in circles ( I have no idea why horses do that). Magicbeauty shrieked and reared up. Desteny could barely stay on. But Midnight Trouble went off the deep end. First, he froze, then he let out a whinny so loud it drowned out the screams of the girls, who had stopped running towards the horses, but Midnight was already scrard. He reared up so high he nearly flipped over. He twisted around and reared up again and Melody was thrown off. Midnight then took off running into the stable. Desteny screamed in terror as Melody hit the gravel and dirt of the path. Desteny wanted to jump off to see if Melody was alright but Magicbeauty was now spinning in a circle. Brian and Nick had calmed their horses and jumped off them. They ran over to Melody's side. Desteny strained to see is she was alright but Magic tossed her head, unbalencing Desteny. She managed to slide off Magic's saddle instead of fall and pulled Magic over to Melody.
"She's breathing and she has a pulse but she's unconcous and hurt bad," said Nick, his voice shaking.
"I'll go to the stable and get help," chocked Desteny. She mounted Magic and kicked her in the side. She galloped the last distance to the stable and trotted right into the stable. Tony came running up. "What's wrong?"
"Melody was thrown on the path. She's hurt really bad. Call an ambulence," gasped Desteny. Then she turned to Magic and galloped back to Melody, praying the ambulence would get there in time.
"It's like a nightmare all over again," murmmered Nick.
Desteny, Nick and Brian were in the hospital waiting room. Melody had been rolled into the emergency room 10 minutes before. Brian hadn't said a word since arriving at the hospital. Desteny was pale and shaking in Nick's arms. "Thank god she had her helmet on," choaked Desteny, thinking what would have happened if she wasn't.
At the moment, the doctor came into the waiting room. It was the same doctor who had been taking care of Desteny. "This looks like a familer bunch," said the doctor. "You will be happy to know Melody is going to be fine. She's going to be sore for a long time and she has a broken arm but she was lucky she was wearing her helmet. She would not be alive if she wasn't. We're going to keep her over night to make sure that there is not head inguries that develop," said the doctor.
"Thank you doctor," said Nick.
"Desteny, how's your head?" asked the doctor.
"Better now that I know Melody is going to be alright," answered Desteny, ginving a weak smile.
"You can all go in to see her," said the doctor smiling.
The threesome raced to Melody's room. They opened the door and was welcomes by a full awake, pale Melody.
"Hey girl. How are you?" asked Desteny, going to one side on the bed.
"Okay. I'm really sore though," anwsered Melody.
"We're just glad your alright," said Brian, squeezing her good hand.
"It's strange. Both times we've visited you, you've gotten hurt," said Nick, thoughtfully.
Brian gave him a evil eye. Nick shrank back. "Nick, that has nothing to do with you guys seeing us," said Desteny, shaking her head.
"Only you would bring that up," smiled Melody. She turned to Brian. Her smile faded when she saw Brian serious expression. "Brian, are you ok?" she asked.
Brian looked at Melody. "Ya, I just need to talk to Nick outside for a second."
Nick looked at Brian surprised. Brian grabbed his arm and pulled him outside.
What's the matter Brian?" asked Nick, after Brian shut the door behind him.
"I was thinking about what you said. About them always getting hurt around us," said Brian, sighing.
"Hey, it was a stupid remark. I never should have said," said Nick, apoligizing.
"But it made her think. Maybe this is fate's way of telling us that we should keep away from the girls. Maybe we should break up with them," murmered Brian. "What???" cried Nick. "Have you lost your mind?"
"No, more like I've found it. So, are you going to agree with me?" asked Brian.
"No way. I culd never hurt Desteny like that," cried Nick, giving Brian a dirty look.
"You mean, you want to risk putting her through all that pain again?" asked Brian, taking a step closer.
"It was just cowinsidence that they got hurt when we were visiting," said Nick, in a small voice.
"Do you really want to risk it?" asked Brian, opening the door.
"What do you mean you think we should break up," cried Melody, staring at Brian.
"I want to make sure you don't get hurt anymore," explained Brian.
"That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard," cried Melody. Melody stared at him angerly, then looked away.
Nick looked at Desteny. She was staring out the window. She hadn't said a word since Brian had told them.
"Desteny, are you ok?" asked Nick.
"Is this how you feel too?" Desteny asked quietly.
Nick looked at Brian. Brian nodded his head. Nick looked back at Deteny. He lowered his eyes and shut them. He sighed. "Yes, I want to make sure you don't get hurt."
"You know," Desteny turned to Nick with tears in her eyes. "This hurts a lot more than when I got pushed off the stairs. I thought to you were different then other guys. But I guess they're all as fucking carless as I thought they were," yelled Desteny.
With that, she ran out of the room in tears.
Nick looked at Brain. "Thanks a lot man," he said sarcasticly. He ran off after Desteny.
Brian looked at Melody who was staring out the window. "Melody..." started Brian, but Melody interupted him.
"Get out of my room," Melody said, not looking at him.
"Melody, let me explain," said Brian.
"Get out," whispered Melody, he eyes closed in pain.
Brain sighed, got up and opened the door. He looked at Melody one last time and left.
