Some of the contestents were good. Some were obvisouly really nervous, cause their voices were shaking as much as their knees. There were people of all ages. Everywhere from an elderly lady who was probaly in her early 60s to a cute little 6 year old. Some were just out there to have fun. Some were in for the prize and took it seriously, a little too seriously.
Soon, it was Summer and Jewel's turn. The announcer went up to the microphone.
"And now, back to defend their title as the champs, last years winners of the singing contest, Summer Jakeson and Jewel Carison," said the announcer. The crowd cheered and Jewel and Summer went up to the stage.
"Thank you and we'll try not to disapoint ya," said Jewel.
Summer nodded her head and the music for Beaullua Wood by Garth Brooks filled the speakers.
Jewel took a breath to calm the butterfly's in her stomach and began to sing.
'Oh, the snowflakes fell in silence
Over Bealleau Wood that night
For a Christmas truce had been declared
By both sides of the fight.
As we stood there in our trenches, the silence broke in two
By a german solider singing, a song that we all knew'
Then came Summer's turn. She took over on the next verce.
'Though I did not know the langauge
The song was Silent Night
Then I heard my buddy whisper
"All is calm,all is bright
'Then across the frozen battlefield
Another's voice joined in
Until one by one each man became a singer of the hymn.'
Next, Summer took up the next part.
'Then I thoguht that I was dreaming
For right there in my site
Stood teh german soldier
'Neath the falling flakes of white.
'And he raised his hand and smiled at me
As if he seemed to say
Here's hoping we both live to see us
Fint a better way'
'Then the devil's clock struck midnight
An the skies lit up again.
And the battle field where heaven stood
Was blown to hell again'
'But for just one fleeting mometn
The answer seemed so clear
Heaven not beyond the clouds
It's just beyond the fear'
'No heavens not beyond the clouds
It's for us.......to find....it.....here.'
The crowd was silent for a moment, then erupted in loud cheers and cat calls. Summer and Jewel looked down to see Scott, Dave, Clint and Bob and their feet and cheering loudly.
The announcer came up to the girls. "Wow! Now you know why these girls won last year," he said smiling.
The girls took their seats on the grass beside the guys.
"Wow! You girls got some real talent," said Dave.
"Ah, your just saying that," blushed Jewel.
"No way," said Scott.
"Look, we haven't won yet. There's still one more contestent for under 18," said Summer, bringing it up.
"Don't worry. You got it made," assured Bob.
