By then, the last contestent for the 18 and older part finished singing. The annoucer came up to the micraphone. "Another round of applause for Cindy. And Now, out final contestent for teh under 18 section. Veronica Blockin."
A tall brunette walked up onto the stage with her nose in the air. She looked at the crowd with distaste and nodded her head to the announcer who started the music. The music to My Heart Will Go On poured out of the speakers.
Jewel turned to her friends. "That's the song we won with last year," said Jewel, a scowl on her face. Her friends returned the look.
Veronica began to sing, her expression never changing. Never a smile. She was a good singer, but she got flat on some of her high notes.
When, she finished, she looked at Jewel and Summer with a smug look on her face. She stepped off the stage and the announcer stepped up to the mic.
A'lright. Our judges have reached a decsion." The judges handed him a card. "The winner for the 1999 Kerioki Contest for the under 18 is." He opened the card. "Summer Jakeson and Jewel Garison."
The crowd cheered and clapped loudly and cheered. Summer and Jewel stepped up to the stage, smiling brightly. They excepted their prize and the crowd cheered even louder.
The girls stepped off the stage as the crowd started to wander away. They walked over to the guys.
"See, we told you had it made," smiled Bob.
Scott hugged Summer and fave her a peck on the cheek. "Congradulations," he whispered.
"Did you see the look on that Veronica's face?" laughed Dave. "She looked like she was going to spit up a hairball." They all laughed.
Jewel looked up. "Oh no. Here she comes." They all swallowed their laughter as Veronica walked up to them, a disgusted look on her face.
"What's the matter? Swallow a lemon?" asked Jewel. Summer and the guys cracked up.
Veronica sneered at her. "No. I've come to warn you. I don't take losing ver well," said Veronica, in a low voice.
"I would have thought you would have been use to it by now," smiled Summer. That made it harder for the others not to split their sides laughing.
Veronica sneered at them. "Watch you backs. I'm willing to do anything to win that contest next year," she warned.
"Well then we'll be competing next year again," said Jewel.
Veronica smiled eveily. "We'll see about that." With that, she turned and left.
Jewel turned to her friends. "Wierd," she said.
"Come on. Let's go celebarte by going on the freakest ride here," said Summer.
They all agreed and went walked off side by side, forget all about Veronica and all she was planning.
