Chapter 18

Dave woke up in a bright room with a bad headache. He tried to sit up but that made his head hurt more so he lied back down.

Just then, Clint and Bob came in the room and saw Dave looking around sleepily.

"Hey D. How ya doing?" asked Clint.

"I hurt. Where am I?" he asked.

"In the hospital," said Bob.

"Why am I in the hospital?" asked Dave confused.

Clint and Bob looked at each other. "Don't you rememeber what happened tonight?" asked Bob.

"I remember watching the fireworks, then everything went black. What happened?" Dave asked again.

"Dave, a huge tree branch came crashing down on you, Scott, Jewel and Summer," explained Clint.

"What? Are they ok?" asked Dave worried.

"Scottt's just got a fractured wrist. But the girls got the worst of it, espessilly Summer. They're both unconcouis right now. We know Jewel's right leg is broken really bad and she's got a cuncusion. Summer's bleeding internally and her foot and ankle bones were shattered. The doctors aren't sure when they'll wake up," said Bob sadly.

"You've got a fractured ankle and your knee is bugered up a bit," said Clint. "You were all really lucky that you weren't killed."

"When can we get out of here?" asked Dave.

"You and Scott can go home tomorrow. Well, obviously, Jewel and Summer can't go home anytime soon," said Bob.

"Look, we got to go hom. Visiting hours are over. We'll come back tomorrow, ok?" said Clint.

"Ok," mumbled Dave.

Clint and Bob left the room, clising the dorr softly behind them.

Dave leaned against the pillows. "Why did this happen and who would have done this?" he asked himself. "Who?"

He felt his eyelids getting heavy but he didn't want to fall asleep. But soon Dave was fast asleep.

The next morning, Dave hobbled over to Scott's room using the crutches the doctors fave him. When he opened the door, he saw that Scott was gone. He was about to call the nurse to ask her where Scott was, but he figured out where Scott would probaly be. He went over to the elevator and went down to the intensive care unit. He walked over to room 276 and opened the door.

Inside, Scott was standing beside a bed, beside Jewel's bed. To Dave's surprised, Jewel was awake, rubbing her eyes sleepily.

"Hey D, I buzzed you in your room to telly you Jewel was awake," explained Scott.

"Ya, well, I came looked for you," said Dave, coming into the room. "Hey Jewel. How you feeling?"

"Really sleepy and I have a really bad headache. But that's not what hurts the most," said Jewel. She had a big bandage on her head, 'cause she had a huge wound on her forehead that had to get stitches.

"What hurts the most?" asked Dave, going over to her side.

Jewel sighed and looked over at Summer, who was on the other side of the room. "My heart. It hurts to see my friend in trouble and not being able to help her," Jewel said softly. She wiped a tear from her eyes and turned to Dave. "So what's wrong with you?"

"Fractured ankle and my knee is screwed up. What about you?" asked DAve.

"Believe me, it looks a lot worse then it really is. I broke my right leg in 2 places, plus my ankle is broken. I have a concusion and a huge scratch on my forehead and left left. Both needing stictches," said Jewel. "Either than that, I'm ready to rock and roll," she smiled.

Scott and Dave laughed. "I don't think any of us will be doing any rocking or rolling for quite awhile," said Scott.

"Specking for yourself," said jewel and Dave at the same time. They both laughed and Scott rolled his eyes.

"So, I hear you guys get out of here today," said Jewel, sitting up straighter.

"Yup," sadi Scott. "In the afternoon."

"Lucky. So you're just going to leave me and Summer in this scary hospital all by ourselves," said jewel with a puppy look.

"Aww, don't worry. We'll visit you everyday," promised Dave.

"Then you're going to be visiting the hospital a lot. The doctors said I'm gonna be in here for along time," said Jewel sadly.

"Na, time'll fly by," smiled Scott.

"Would it help if I woke up?" asked Summer.

"Ya, it would Sum," said Jewel. It then clicked in Jewel's brain. "Summer," she cried happily.

Summer grinned. "Took ya long anought. Talk about a delayed reaction," chuckled Summer.

"We're glad your awake. You gave us quite a scare," asid Scott, walking over to her.

"You lost faith in me. Why, this was my plan the whole time," said Summer.

"You planned the tree to fall on us?" asked Dave scepticly.

Summer grinned sheepishly. "Well.." The others laughed.
