Overview and thoughts

2002 got a kick start from the first month. I am quite proud of "Speaker" as he became my very first plainly marked Champion. Who says you need flash to win? Definitely not Speaker or his owner Dee Singleton. Booker T had 4 AKC Champions finish (Afton, JJ, Jersey & Copper) with several others making big strides towards their own Championships. Home-bred kids JJ, Copper and Dottie all had wins this year. JJ became a Champion at just 13 months old with 3 Major wins and a Best of Breed. Copper became a Champion at 14 months old with 4 Major wins and a finishing Best of Breed from the classes.

It was with Copper's finishing (June 2002) that Booker T became an official ABC Sire of Merit. Soon afterwards, Champion #8 for Booker T finished. Ch Raintree's Jersey Girl won 2 Majors in Philadelphia while being owner handled. Jersey finished with 4 Major wins in total. At 8.5 years old Booker T is looking fabulous and still makes his occasional appearance in the Veteran ring. Special Veteran thoughts go to Crystal who turned 9 years old this April. Crystal is still the picture of health and energy. It is my sincerest hope to be celebrating her 10th Birthday next year.

Speaker and JJ decided to turn it up in the Specials ring. Both boys won impressive Best of Breed wins soon after they finished. Speaker went BOB over the #1 ranked Boxer in the US and JJ went BOB over two Top 20 competitors. Both boys also made a trip to Canada, winning several points towards their Canadian Championships.

Diesel made his debut in September at 10 months old. Just his 2nd weekend out he gave me yet another win I have never had: Best In Show Puppy!. The following weekend he went Best of Winners for his first point. And the next weekend saw him have a wonderful showing at the ABC Regional Specialty where he went Best Puppy in Specialty. I see this striking young man making a name for himself in 2003.

An anticipated event for me was the 2002 ABC Regional Specialty in Vancouver, WA. I made the 12 hour drive to Washington state with Lynda Yon who graciously allowed me to passenger with her. Booker T made the trip with me and was entered in the Veteran class. Diesel was also entered as this was his first Specialty. I had never taken Booker T out of the area for such a large show. He looked fabulous at 8-1/2 years old as he proud strutted the Veteran ring.

Another anticipated event had been the breeding of Delilah - Ch PawPrint's Seduction. This lovely girl was paired off with Am/Can Ch Berlane's Causin' An Uproar, SOM CD. "Sabre" was an easy choice for stud. Both Phylis Snyder and myself held our breath. From the litter, Phylis got what she had been praying for: A stunning show male. "Samson" was named Cinnamon I've Been Seduced after his mother as well as his call name being in honor of her. This boy is only 2 months old, but is already showing some incredible potential. I see 2003 being a wonderful year for both Samson and Phylis.

Penny had wowed me when she was in the ring and she has continued this impressive trend in the whelping box. Two pups from her first litter are already finished Champions. Needless to say I am incredibly proud of Penny and her kids. My plans are to repeat the breeding back to Booker T in June of 2003. I have a goal of Penny achieving her ABC Dam of Merit award, awarded to bitches that produce 4 AKC Champions. With two Champions being finished from her first litter, I am hopefully we can add 2 more superstars to the list.

On a sad note, PawPrint Boxers lost their longtime feline companion. Smokey was definitely a veteran gal at 15-1/2 years old. She helped me raise all my Boxers both as puppies and as adults. She was the sleeping partner for Penny. She would regularly be seen getting a face washing by Booker T. And Crystal was her favorite set of legs to rub against when she had an itch. Smokey was originally annoyed when the dogs started coming into my life. But once she found out how comfy their dog beds and crates were, she settled right in. Ken and I helped her to the bridge along with Dr Stone. The end was peaceful though incredibly sorrowful.

My Thanks

I would not be able to achieve the success with my Boxers without the support of so many good friends and quality breeders. I cannot even begin to list the kind folks that have given moral support over this past year. Good people have put their faith in my Boxers and I am completely grateful. I hope to continue to share many more successes with my friends.
