Rudd wins at Pocono!!!!
LONG POND, Pa. - Ricky Rudd, driver of the No. 28 Texaco/Havoline Taurus, won Sunday's Pocono 500 NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway. It was Rudd's 21st career win and the return to victory lane for the No. 28 car after 134 races.
"I am just so proud of everyone on our program," Rudd said. "Everyone at Robert Yates Racing has worked so hard for this. I know it's been a long time for Texaco/Havoline and I'm happy we could get this done for them. For all our fans, they ride the highs and lows with us and today we gave them a high.
"We had a decent car. Early in the race, I thought it was about a third or fourth place car. But, my guys never gave up and kept adjusting it. I could tell we were getting better as the race went on. The car responded well after the last pit stop and we were able to get the win."
Rudd led the race twice for a total of 39 laps. He took the lead the final time on lap 177 of 200. He earned $189,542 and has moved to third in the series point standings.
The win was the career-first for Michael McSwain.
