Lower left: Pleurobranchus tuberculatus using the sides of notum or mantle edge making a progressive wave to swim through the water. Upper left: Coryphella iodinea swims by lateral bending of the body. Upper right: Olivella zanoeta uses the metapodium to raise its shell out of the way of advancing sea stars or starfish. Lower right: Coryphella cynara swims by a "breast stroke" action of its cerata. One animal did this for 45 minutes before stopping. Link to more sea-slugs, go to Home Page, go to Humboldt Squids.
