Ava Gabrielle Smith was born on Friday, November 2, 2001, at 6:57 am. She was born 20 inches long and weighed in at 6 pounds, 10 ounces. After 20-plus hours of labor, she was finally delivered via C-section at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia. She's a perfect little baby and both she and Mom had no complications.
She was born into the world with four cousins, Shanel (Dianna's sister's daughter), Trey (Dianna's brother's son), Kayla (my sister's daughter), and Nathan (my sister's son). She has a Grandma and Grandpa Smith in San Diego, a Grandma Stevens in Maryland, and a Great Grandma Martin in Wisconsin. She also has an Aunt Colette in Maryland, an Uncle James in Atlanta, and an Aunt Kate and Uncle Russ in San Diego. Her Godparents are Ron and Nadine from Maryland. Oh yeah, she has a sister two years her senior, our Dalmatian, Gwenevere.
Her first name, Ava, is the Greek version of the Hebrew name, Eve, which means "life." Her middle name, Gabrielle, is the French feminine version of another Hebrew name, Gabriel, and means "one devoted to God." We arrived at the name 'Ava' due to my fondness of actress Ava Gardner, who was married to Frank Sinatra from 1951 to 1957. She died in 1990 at the age of 67 after starring in over 70 movies, including The Killers, Mogambo, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, and The Bible.
Ava was baptized on November 18 at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Virginia. Later that day, she went to her first restaurant. (She slept the entire time!)
