Wolf

It has been said by wiser men
That when the beasts are gone,
The lonliness that's left behind
Will do away with dawn.

  Men fear thee Wolf
But I don't ask - I know.
It's not your fierceness felt by them
But the beauty which you sow.

It grows within our hearts and mind
to threaten those of us,
Who cannot seem to find the way
To love, and to be kind.

So if you go forever Wolf,
Please take me with you then.
I need to be with yours and you
and not these selfish men.

The People

A Forrest rife with towering trees
Ends close upon a shore
To watch and guard The people
Who have gathered here before

Words which traveled on the wind
They came from distant drums
To summon them together
This band of ancient ones.

  Elders, Shaman, leaders all
With common goal in mind
To listen to the spirits
And know that they must find

A way to tell the nations
Of the dangers which we face
If all the Great One's creatures
Shall vanish from this place

And while they sit in silence
A vision fills the door
The wolf speaks to them clearly
Words too somber to ignore.

All living things upon this land
Forever more entwined
Depend upon their brother - Wolf
To change the state of mind

That earth belongs to us to use
And taint without a thought
To how it will sustain us
Though ruin we have wrought

The vision - Wolf then faded
As though it were never there
The ancient one's then chanted
A strain of great despair

  Their teaching has transcended time
And shown us of it's worth
That in the end all creatures know
That they belong to Earth

Eternal Hope

A mountainside - a mist hangs low
A ghostlike form appears
To move among the shadows
And as we watch, it nears

It moves like water in a stream
It glides with fluid grace
Watching, listening, reading signs
Which only it can place

A scent is brought on changing winds
It reaches him with force
He knows that soon a life will end
But yet, feels no remorse

For in his world it has been taught
For generations here
That while a life ends - one goes on
There is no need for tears

The weak, the frail sustain the strong
So that all may survive
This credo from Great Spirits sent
Will keep the earth alive

Within this scene before us spread
There is no loss or waste
The wolf knows well this lesson taught
He knows it must be faced

If water, land and creatures all
Endure and then remain
Life will go on and then be free
To build itself again

  A never-ending cycle is
Portrayed upon this slope
Our totem and our brother
Offers us eternal hope

That if we pause and ponder now
Then we will surely know
That we must move together
And carefully choose which seeds we sow

Legend

Many moons have come and gone
The message is first read
Our Creator stood with upraised hands
To tell what lies ahead

He then made earth and creatures
Speaking clear in voice and sign
To give each one his duty
To limit and define

What they must do forever more.
Insure that Mother earth
Will bloom with life and love - and then
He said, "This is the Birth"

On that day at Lake Chelan
The song of drum and flute
Joined with him as he declared
This is absolute

Now here a different time and place
Another wise man stands
His message - grace are both the same
He talks with words and hands

Before him on this special day
Meet souls in fear and strength
And as his fathers before him did
In truth, he speaks at length

Telling all who hear him now
That they're the chosen ones
And they alone have knowledge
To be passed for endless suns

And then as silence fell
Upon each heart, each mind and soul
They stood, to go - to tell

That to this day things still remain
As then - at Lake Chelan
With honor on that birthing day
The legend first began

Voice Of the Wolf

A circle formed by newfound friends
A voice to rise above
A message and a mission shown
Which demonstrates their love

They play - enjoy and labor
As their work has just begun
Though many and from distance great
They meet and now are one

They gather close to give support
To form a lasting bond
Which carries them from day to day
And into time beyond

In time of need - with candles lit
Their spirits, hand in hand
They offer their support
To every creature on this land

They seek to teach - to educate
Those who have not yet seen
They seek to pose a challenge
We ask, what does this mean

Voice of the Wolf now speaks to us
Their message to remain
Within our hearts and souls to form
A never ending chain

Awakening

Suddenly it is clear to me
A flash of light has shown
That I had not been seeing things
I surely should have known

How could I be so blind to this
And how could I ignore
The signs he laid before me
Like tracks left on a shore

The great bear is my father
As wolf, I am his son
The mother, swan - the daughter, dove
We all live life as one

The eagle soars on high to scream
The words we need to hear
The words of how we came about
The words of love and fear

We live within the creatures
We live to serve the earth
These words from the Creator
He spoke them at the birth

How have we strayed so far from him
How can we now get back
How can we now apologize
For all that which we lack

To carry out his prophecy
And not to cower in fright
But take a stand right here - right now
To finally do what's right

After The Sunrise

Beneath a waterfall
At the edge of a wood
I stood and I listened
To hear what I could

Music builds to fill the air
In gentle soft refrain
I am calm, serene
I wait to regain

The feeling I've lost
Sights now not seen
Where have they gone
Where have I been

A short time ago
I stood at this place
I then heard the sounds
Felt warmth on my face

Touched by the breezes
Caressed by the sun
Hearing the loons cry
Life has begun

The spray of the water
Falls on my skin
I need to come in

Once again here
I know I'm at peace
The feelings return
Now to release

The sadness and worry
Which emptied my soul
They now hasten from me
I have become whole

I know why this happens
There is no surprise
Life always begins
After the sunrise

Questions

How is it that a grain of sand
Upon a beach be shown
That while there are vast numbers
It is really there alone

How is it that the universe
With all its points of light
So easily conceals a world
And keeps it out of sight

How is it that my cheek feels pain
And when I reach to soothe
I smell a fragrance - earth and wood
It's strong - I cannot move

How is that I've not been near
A place which would produce
These odors now upon my hand
And why can't I deduce

Just who it is that lingers near
A step beyond my sight
What is it that she wants of me
She has to know my plight

We've met before, I know it's true
Perhaps she knows just where
But me - I'm lost - I know not why
I feel such great despair

Why won't she come to show herself
I know she feels the same
Then hand in hand we'll journey to
This place from which we came

Lets Suppose

Let's suppose I cast my heart
From high atop a hill
Higher yet into the wind
And watch and there stand still

Where will it go - who will it find
What meaning will it hold
When then, at last it flutters down
What stories will be told

Let's suppose it really finds
Someone to understand
The journey and the searching
For a love to hold it's hand

Will she look upon it and
Then - will she fully know
That when it left to fly away
It knew just where to go

Let's suppose she holds it close
So tightly to her breast
And comforts it as she knows how
To soothe and let it rest

So when it warms and lives again
No fear within it hides
That this is just a fantasy
To ebb and flow on tides

Will she know that it belongs to her
And her alone
Or will it be as always
Used up and then be thrown

Upon a heap of broken dreams
Of shattered loves and life
Instead of being nurtured
Will it once again know strife

But let's suppose that this is not
What happens - and she knows
This heart cries out
Please love me and
Then opens like a rose
