What goes in...

Among many other things, these are the works and people who have influenced "Mile Higher Club"

the Death Note films
A variation on the manga of the same name, but with a shift of theme that creates a more sympathetic and IMHO more believable character Light.

Tatsuya Fujiwara, the actor who plays Light. Up until "Death Note" he was best known as the surviving student in "Battle Royale", but is also an accomplished classical stage actor.

VNV Nation, particularly frontman Ronan Harris. Besides being my photo model for Corat, he impressed me in person backstage at a show as someone who could instantly connect with complete strangers and make us feel like we'd been hugged. He does this even though his music style is EBM/Industrial, known for its cold sounds and steely themes. The contradiction is amazing, and inspiring.

Nobody does supernatural like Supernatural. The WB show has a more heartland feel to it than the urban noir of MHC, but the magick and demons and brotherly love could not be better.

Speaking of urban noir, I'm often listening to the (instrumental) theme song from Sin Citywhen I'm writing or prepping a scene. I've unconsciously based Corat in part on Hartigan, something I only realized on a recent re-viewing of this picture.

What comes out...

Oddly enough, I've written my own fanfic--that is to say, I've written pieces about the characters in Mile Higher Club that for whatever reason fall outside its continuity. Sometimes it's a mental tool, to develop a character or two. Sometimes it's the creative fleshing out of a stat, often the check digit results of a resonance that may or may not get done. I have, for instance, the destinies and fates of a handful of major characters, with check digits. Sadly the character who could read them has stepped out. I've had to flesh out the relationships of many of the characters, particularly the terrestrial ones. I could write tables and lists and sometimes do, but...well, on with the show.
The following are such works. They may never happen in continuity, or they may come later. Much of that depends on the players. Click at your own risk as they involve spoiler information.

"In a Nutshell" PbP on Dreamwidth. My handle is "noniel" and I use this to brainstorm and play with characters who otherwise don't have much going on right now.

"Sleeper Cell"
Corat, Ryuki, other characters not yet appeared. Recently unlocked. The circumstances are different but this is now a plot in play--spoilery.

"Ryuki Watari's Destiny"
Corat, Ryuki, implied Rina-el, named spoiler characters.

"On Villainy, Sin, and Discord"
An essay on evil in the play Hamlet, with Corat's discord as an illustration.

"Awe Demonling"
Ryuki, implied Ryukawa. Illustrates a 'spell' from the Corporeal Player's Guide that struck me as absurdly simple. Illustrates one MHC variance from canon i.e. what the kami have been doing for the past ten years.

"Big in Japan"
Nybbas and unnamed underling, implied Marc. An elaboration on the kami theme, taking a most endearing/frustrating element of Japanese culture and siccing it on the canonical Demon Prince of Media. As appeared in the Steve Jackson forums and mailing lists.

"Behind the Music"
Pepito, Glen Breckenridge, Eliza, implied Jordan, implied Vato. Preparatory writing for the "Homicide, Genocide, Rivercide" chat session.

"The Private Musings of Corat of the East Wind"
As the title implies, an early work attempting to define the character. Recently unlocked.
