First, beware of what you read. If you're interested in playing you know at least some of what's going on. The character you build, how much will he or she know? Probably nothing in the spoilers section. Some of the profiles' information will be news to your character. The sidebars with Yves, Laurence, and the Corps? Not a chance. Get a clear picture in your mind what your character knows and doesn't know. If you haven't read those things yet, you probably shouldn't. I as a GM may call you on information you're using inappropriately, but mostly it will irritate your fellow players. And the Mile Higher Club has enough cohesion problems...
Second, go to the beginning of the thread First post OOC thread. The instructions for character-building have not changed. (repeat below). Especially if you're familiar with In Nomine rules, read the House Rules page (sorry, it's still being reorganized). Drop a note in the OOC thread if something isn't clear--you may not be the only one confused. I tend to forget that nobody's in the car with me when I'm working things out.
And in case it isn't obvious, get hold of the Core rules book. You might figure out the rules without it, but you won't get celestial politics, and those are becoming increasingly important. Other books I consult regularly are Superiors 1: War and Honor (Michael, Dominic, David, and Laurence). Corporeal Players Guide, dealing with Remants and sorcerors*, comes in a recent second.
Superiors 3: Hope and Prophecy I tend to consult on PC's more than NPC's, but it's still useful.
If you're too on-the-fence to drop the money for a book, there are a couple of websites that will give you some very basic information. Right now they're linked off the Old Page.
Next, drop me a note with your concept. If you see a character whose story you'd like to tie into, feel free to contact that player directly, through the forums. If you're shy of that, let me know and I'll do the legwork for you. I may also suggest a tie that you don't see, something in the backstory maybe that's not obvious yet. I have to figure out why the characters are brought together, what the Divine Plan on that is, so I'll need something to work with.
Character creation, simplified
1. Get a concept. It doesn't have to be elaborate or fully fleshed out. Heck, get two or three and throw them at me (the GM). If you'd like to tie into a current character, mention that.
2. Grab a character sheet Look, I've made one for Word here. Link to LJ community Please leave a comment even if you don't end up joining the game.
3. Pick a type Angels, soldiers, saints, mortals--have at it. Mortals with strange powers or massive influence should run them by me first (Ryuki hates competition ;) ). Zombis, undeads, ghosts, gods, ???--please run them by me before posting. Not ruled out by any stretch.
Malakim don't do well in this club. Demons would get swatted outright. Even our Swordsman has an uphill climb, and don't expect to play a Tsayadim without an amazing story to back it up.
4. Stat the basics You've got nine** Forces to spread among Corporeal, Ethereal, and Celestial. Each Force equals four stat points, though I won't mind if you shift one or two points to another column. Note I said "one or two"--don't minmaxx. It's not nice.
**unless he's not an angel--then his number will be lower. Consult your Core book.
You've got 12 skill points to put on any skill you like. Make up skills if you want. If you put in something fairly bizarre ("antique postage stamp appraisal") I may get the Kobalite notion to run with it.
5. Tack on ye Superpowers Each character gets a total of three supernatural powers, default level 2 unless the power doesn't level. Chose from Songs, attunements, distinctions, or other as appropriate to your character.
Choir/Superior attunements are limited to that Choir/Superior combination only. My angels are territorial.
If said character doesn't have a supernatural bone in his body, we'll find somewhere cool to spend it. Like on relics, holy weapons, that sort of thing.
New players don't get holy or celestial weapons--you have to buy those later (though they may be in your backstory, and you just misplaced them.)
Somewhere between 3 and 5, pick a name and a personality, and find an entrance. I'll help. Post something. You have up to three posts (more, if things go well) before I'm going to worry about seeing stats. We rarely actually use them.
Questions, drop a note on the forum or the LiveJournal, here
*Yes, spellcheck tells me that's a misspelling. If you know magick people, you know we can be headstrong about such things...
