Clia sealed the tube and sent it on its way. Nice young man, he was. Kind of edgy but with good old-fashioned manners, refined like. Fisher had, inexplicably, gone out for a snack just before the fellow had arrived, so she handled his paperwork herself.
Fisher returned just in time to hear the whoosh of the pneumatic tube flying off to its destination. He picked up the carbon copies of the documents Clia had sent. Handwritten. Half legible. With a page missing. "Roarke's gonna be pissed."
"So let him." At that moment the door opened and a man looking like a wet cat walked in.
"Hello, Mr. Stone. Come in, sit down." He tossed a blank form on top of the typewriter and motioned Clia to it. She put it in the machine and began pecking.
"Hi." He didn't see the devil and couldn't figure out how the man knew his name. "I'd like to get a bus ticket out of town."
"That's not what you really want. You look tired, can I get you some coffee?"
"What I'd really like is some time away from my boss. He's got some rule against time off." He snickered bitterly.
Fisher sympathized, and assured Stone that no matter who his boss was, he could get him away from it all for a weekend. He knew just the place...
