LALHS Christus Award Winner
For the second time Los Angeles Lutheran Jr/Sr High School has received national recognition for excellence in Christian education. The School Ministry Department of the Board for Congressional Services of the Lutheran Church ~ Missouri Synod (LCMS) awarded only seven of the sixty-eight LCMS operated high schools. Each demonstrated a strong commitment to a Christ centered mission with quality curriculum and a special religious dimension.
Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL) will award each Christus Award winning school a $2500 grant.
A School Ministry Department press release stated that LALHS "lives its mission (to share Christ disciple Christian believers, and educate students for college and life) each day to the fullest. Not only are students provided with a climate in which to grow spiritually but they are also given opportunities to lead fellow students in growth experiences."
"We can lead in chapel on the drama team or lead by being a prayer warrior. Some students lead through the Joshua team and by being a Big Lion for younger students," one junior girl was quoted in the School Ministry Departments press release. "We know our teachers are praying for us and want us to see us use our talents," she continued, "Teachers bring God into the picture in all my classes and help me to personalize what Gods Word says."
According to one parent quoted in the release, "My son really trusts his teachers teachers want the best out of my child and take the time to help him reach his best the teachers here work with parents to encourage students to be responsible and become independent."
"This mission of the Lutheran high school is built on sharing the message of Jesus Christ as Savior of all. Because of His great love for us, we believe that the value system in a Lutheran high school must model His life. That is what these schools set as their chief goal. That is what makes them Christus Award winning schools!" said LCMS Associate Director of Schools, Ross Stuber.
