Broadening Horizons;
Helping students become better writers
By Amber Smith
L.A. Lutherans new junior high English teacher wants to help students learn and appreciate writing.
"I love literature and I love to write; I want to help others learn to appreciate writing," said miss A.C. Foster.
Foster was born in Los Angeles. She attended college for six years, first at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and then at the University of Miami, Florida.
Miss Foster said that the reason that she wanted to teach at this school was because she thought that L.A. Lutheran had great moral attitudes, friendly people, and a solid reputation.
"L.A. Lutheran has very friendly people, good students and gives quality education," said Foster. She has been teaching for two years. She has taught at one other school as well as at the University of Miami.
Miss Foster also teaches Honors English and serves as the faculty sponsor for the junior high Student Council. Her goal this year was to help the Student Council in any way that she can so that they can put on some great events for the whole junior high, like the Christmas banquet/dance.
Her goals for Honor English have been to help class members enjoy reading, writing, and learning the challenges of literary analysis. She would also like to introduce new texts and writers. She would like to broaden students horizons as well as hers.
"I want to help the students become better writers," she said about the junior high English classes in general, " that means a lot of reading and writing, but it pays off in the long run."
