Waiting For A Gym

By Kaitlin Sullivan, Tiffany Blackford, LaReyna Carlejo, and Amber Smith

We believe that L.A. Lutheran should finance the building of a gym. The asphalt basketball court that we now use is harmful to us. When we sit down, we can be cut by stray pebbles or glass. If we fall, we scrape ourselves, and when we run, we are battered by weather. A gym can provide us with air conditioning when it is cold. A roof can guard us from rain, hail, and wind during the winter months. A gym can allow us to have a larger variety of ports in our curriculum. Gym floors will be easier on our legs and feet when we run and there is less chance of injury when you fall n wood. Asphalt is hard, sharp and dirty, and gym floors are not as hard, not sharp at all, and cleaner. Although a gym would cost a lot of money to build, we are almost certain the students of Lutheran High would help finance it through fundraising and drives. The gym would be very beneficial to the school and it’s student body. It has a lot of different helpful solutions to some common problems. How many times have we had to cancel a volleyball game because of rain? A gym has a roof which blocks the rain.
