Need To Talk?
By Stacie Johnson
Have you ever had a problem and needed someone trustworthy to help, give advice, or just listen? Peer Ministry can help.
Peer Ministry is a group of students at our school selected by the student body in a survey last year. The students selected have qualities such as trust, listening skills, and personal advice giving.
Along with the help of Mrs. Mallory, the Joshua Team brought about the idea of a Peer Ministry Team. This is the first student counseling group of this type at L.A. Lutheran.
With the help of Mr. Wolfgram and Mrs. Mallory the students involved in this experienced a training session twice in the first week of school. They went to Lake View Terrace Recreational Center and worked together to build their group up in its listening skills. The group went on a retreat in November to Big Bear Lake, where they learned about such things as abuse, dating and grief.
Christina Johnson, a sophomore Peer Minister, thinks that this type of student to student counseling will benefit the school by "opening communication lines, and breaking down barriers among the student body."
The Peer Ministry Team hopes to let students know they have someone who is willing to listen and someone they can confide in, with trust.
If youd like to talk to a peer minister, let a teacher know and they will tell Mrs. Mallory who will refer a peer minister to seek you out.
