"Oh hi, Kristy," Korin said.
"Hi....um hi AJ," I replied.
"Hi," he responded.
"Kris...it's not how it looks," Korin stated.
"Well, you have a lot of explaining to do. I'm curious as to how you guys went from totally despising each other to lying on a bed together in a matter of hours," I said.
"OK, to make a long story short, I was bored while you guys were out so I decided to go for a swim. Korin obviously had the same idea, so we bumped into each other. We got into a big old fight, then we realized how immature we were acting, so now we're friends. And we're JUST watching TV," AJ said.
"Um...ok," I replied, not really sure what to say.
"So, how was your date?" AJ asked, changing the subject.
I rolled my eyes.
"It wasn't a date," I said.
"Uh huh sure it wasn't," Korin teased.
"And even if it wasn't, Brian sure wishes it was," AJ said.
I couldn't see my face, but I could tell that my cheeks were red. So I went for my ultimate defense: I rolled my eyes and acted like they were being totally immature. (*like I'm any better, lol---Kristy:)*)
"Grow up, guys. This is sounding a lot like a conversation we would have had in junior high. And, by the way, tonight was a lot of fun, but like I said before, it was not a date."
They just exchanged looks like 'uh huh sure it wasn't a date' and raised their eyebrows.
"Alright, enough. I don't have to take this abuse. I'm going to bed, see ya both tomorrow," I said.
"Ok, bye Kristy," they replied, and I went back to my own room.
I started getting ready for bed when the phone in my room rang. I picked it up on the second ring.
"Hello?"
"Kristy?"
"Yeah?"
"Hey, this is Brian."
My heart started pounding at a speed that had to be WAY too fast for it. How does the sound of his voice manage to do that to me?
"Oh hi Brian."
"Look, I hate bugging you, but we seem to be missing a member of the group, and Donna's about ready to explode, so I was wondering if you could help me out."
"Would this person's first name happen to start with the letter A?"
"As a matter of fact, yes."
I smirked.
"Well, in that case, yes, I know where he is."
"Oh really?"
"Mmm hmm. He's in Korin's room, lying on her bed, watching TV with her."
"You are being sarcastic, right?"
"No, actually for the first time in my life I'm not being sarcastic."
"Umm....well....umm...interesting."
"Yeah, that was kind of my reaction."
"Is there an actual reason that he's in Korin's room, or is he just trying to make world peace or something?"
"Well, according to them, they're now friends."
"Oh really."
"Uh huh."
"Well, can you do me a favor and tell him to get his ass over here because Donna is NOT a happy person?"
"Sure."
"Alright, thanks."
"Welcome."
"See you tomorrow, sweet dreams."
(oh, they would definitely be sweet that night!)
"Night, Brian."
"Night, Kristy."
I hung up the phone and collapsed on the bed. Damn, he's amazing. Then a memory flickered in my brain...no. I couldn't fall in love again. Period.
Suddenly I remembered that there actually had been a reason behind Brian's call. I had to face the exes again. Joy.
I walked into Korin's room again. This time, the tv was off, and the two of them were just laying there talking.
"I'm back!" I announced.
"Great," they groaned.
"Nice to see you guys, too," I replied.
"Kristy, is there an actual reason your here, or are you just trying to make my life hell?" Korin asked.
"Both, actually. But I hope you enjoyed AJ's company, because he's going to be dying now."
"Why?" Korin asked.
"Brian just called. Donna's about ready to kill him."
"Oh SHIT!!!! Bye Korin, bye Kristy, gotta run," AJ yelled as he ran out of room.
I couldn't resist laughing.
"It's not funny!" Kori whined.
"Maybe not to you!" I replied, cracking up.
"Well, now that you've kicked AJ out-" I opened my mouth to protest but she cut me off before I could, "-you might as well stay and talk for awhile."
I smiled and sat down on her bed.
"Ok, so what EXACTLY is happening between you and AJ?" I asked.
"NOTHING! We're just friends!"
"And you don't want anything more at all..."
"Well, I might have little teeny weeny feelings left for him, but it doesn't matter, ok? Change of subject. What about you and Brian?"
"Well, nothing's happened....yet. Korin, I'm confused. I just met him today but...wow. He's amazing. Totally, completely amazing. Just the sound of his voice makes me get this wierd feeling. But...I don't know. I've had my heart broken one too many times. I don't know what to do!"
"Um...well...you know I'm not very good at giving advice. You're the group shrink, remember? WE come to YOU with our problems."
"Well yeah, but it's kinda hard to be a shrink to myself."
Korin sighed.
"Alright, this is all I'm gonna say. Sometimes love is worth risking your heart for."
I pondered her words for a few moments.
"Yeah...maybe. Look, I'm kind of tired, so I'm gonna hit the sack. We have our first show tomorrow, and I don't wanna be tired for it. Night."
"Night. See ya tomorrow."
"Aight, later."
I walked into my room and climbed into the bed. I turned off the light and drifted off to sleep, Korin's words still running through my head.
