Brian grabbed the dagger out of the lifeless body and poised in a fighting stance. "What do we do now?" He asked.
"Um..." Sam thought quickly. One of the assents lunged at her. "Stay Alive!" She blocked his blow with a clang.
Another went for Brian, "Easier said than done!" He added.
"Need some help?" Sam looked up to see Alan with a dagger in each hand.
"I believe that would be appreciated." Sam responded. She stabbed her opponent in the gut.
"You kids get out of here." Alan instructed.
Sam seethed one dagger. She and Brian didn't need to be told this twice. They made their way to the hallway. As they ran, Sam noticed that Brian was faltering. She knew his heart couldn't take this strain. She wrapped her arm around his midsection and his arm went around her shoulder. "Don't worry, I'll get you out of here, alive." She told him. 'I hope.' She added silently. Sam noticed that Brian's breathing was labored. Another attacker was hot on their trail. There was no sign of Alan. Sam cursed under her breath. After half dragging Brian a few more yards, she put him on the ground. She needed both hands to fight. "Brian," Sam hit his cheek lightly. He was out cold, but still breathing. 'Great!' Sam barely had time to think because the next thing she knew, their attacker was upon them. Sam took a fight stance in front of Brian. She was prepared to die before they would get to him.
He wasn't as easy to disperse as the others were. Obviously, he was the skilled one of the bunch. Luckily, she had been trained well. The daggers met with such force, that sparks emerged. Sam knew that the others were hot on their trail, and would be there any minute, and yet, she couldn't get rid of this one. Sam screamed in anguish as the blade cut her face. Blood trickled down her cheek, but Sam didn't let it stop her. If anything, it made her more determined to kill him.
As their blades crossed another time, their faces came within inches of each other. In the darkness, beneath the attacker's hood, she could see his piercing blue eyes. They burned into her soul with more hatred then she had ever seen. It surpassed the look that had been in Brian's eyes hours earlier. The eyes seemed to captivate her. She couldn't get away from them, as if they were hypnotizing her.
Out of the corner of her eye, Sam saw Brian stir. She knew that she had to buy him time, time that they didn't have.
The attacker still held her in his gaze. Sam refused to let them take over her. Without warning, she swiftly brought her knee up to his crotch. He was caught off guard by the blow. Sam took a second to stab him a few times to make sure he was disabled. Unfortunately, she couldn't get to any of his vital organs.
"Go now..." the wind seemed to blow down the hallway. Sam knew that it was Alex.
"Brian, com'on," Sam urged as she went to his side. He was awake, but was too weak to move. Sam quickly helped him up and supported him. "Brian, please, I know you're weak, but I can't drag you far." Brian reluctantly tried walking. It wasn't much, but it helped Sam a great deal. She supported his weight, and as long as he could keep his feet moving, they would do fine.
Sam and Brian came to a corner. She quickly contemplated which direction to go. "Left..." She heard the voice again. There was no way to ignore it. Sam and Brian came to the basement stairs. "Go down stairs, there is a secret door..." Sam shrugged and slowly they made their way down the steps. Unfortunately, when she got there, there seemed to be an entire garrison of enemy troopers. Sam and Brian hid in the shadows and listened to their leader talking.
"The attack has begun tonight. We've started with Alex's boy. No doubt, he is guarded. I have personally sent my own son after him. He will not fail!"
Sam snickered quietly as she remembered meeting the blue eyes attacker. He Had failed.
"Once we have the boy in our possession, we can begin the hostel take over."
This was new, Sam hadn't heard of this.
"Several years ago, we began this plan, only to be stopped by Alex. She and her son, are the only ones who could stop us. It is vital to get to the boy."
Sam looked at Brian's limp body, amazed that he was the only one who could put a stop to this madness.
A hand emerged form the sea of faces. "Yes soldier?"
"How is this boy of use to us? How can he stop us?"
"Because He is my son!" The leader barked. "This boy will have more power than anyone. More so than Jeremy." Murmurs went through the crowd. "Up to when this boy was conceived, Alex was the only one with the power, other then myself. However, this boy has more then both of us combined."
Again, Sam looked at Brian's weakened form. She wondered what power he could have. "Sam," Brian's voice strained, it barely came out a whisper.
"Shhh.." She ordered quietly as she clamped a hand over Brian's mouth.
But, it was too late. Somehow, the leader had heard the whisper. His face turned cold. "He's here,"
The coldness of his voice, pierced Sam's soul. She looked down at Brian. he was unconscious again. She swore under her breath.
Brian suddenly began to gave an eerie glow go over him. Sam watched in horror as his color came back and he looked alive. Brian quickly grabbed the dagger the was lying next to him. He quickly smiled at Sam and then ran out of the hiding spot. Sam was about to follow when she heard the voice again, "Stay my dear. He'll be ok, you however, would be killed."
"But how-" Sam quietly began. "Shhhh..." The voice became the wind again. "Stayyyyyy...."
Sam could only watch as Brian lunged into the room with rage in his eyes. She silently prayed for his life, and her's.
