Chapter 9

Jessica opened her eyes slowly and rolled over, pulling the covers over her head. Sighing she realized she wasn't going to get back to sleep. Cursing aloud she sat up and glanced over to where Brian lay…or was supposed to be. A soft white rose lay in his place. She smiled and picked it up and brought it to her nose. She realized there were roses everywhere! Curious she got up and followed the roses into the other bedroom that Brian had showed her the night before. They led to the closet full of clothes.

Jessica by now was really interested. She opened up the closet and stepped in. A rose lay on the velvet chair, upon a gorgeous long blue dress. A soft glow came upon Jessica's cheeks and she smiled. Realizing that she was wanted to put it on, she slipped off her own nightgown and went over to the chair. Standing in front of the mirror, Jessica admired the way the blue brought out her eyes. She jumped with the sound of a soft knock upon the wooden door. She turned just in time to see Brian step into the room. He smiled when he saw her.

"You look gorgeous in that dress, Jessica. As I knew you would." She blushed and turned to stair at her image in the mirror once again. She turned back to Brian with a huge grin upon her face.

Before Brian could speak, she flew into his arms and hugged him tightly. "Thank you so much!"

Brian smiled and nodded. "Your welcome! As soon as I saw it I knew it was you."

"And it is! Thank you so much! It's beautiful!" she exclaimed still in shock at it's soft satin fabric.

Brian extended his elbow out and she latched onto him. He led her outside and into his white BMW.

She giggled and for once in a long time she felt happy. Brian smiled his ever so enchanting smile and opened the door for her. She placed a soft kiss upon his cheek, which seemed to surprise him. but he smiled and closed the door for her.

He drove to a fancy restaurant where they dined by candlelight and talked about everything from Jessica's old life to the weather and several interests they both had. It seemed as though they were two teenagers that had just fallen in love with each other and nothing could take them a part.

Inside Brian knew this wasn't true. He knew that this was wrong by law of his own. He knew that it wasn't right to love her and simply confuse her mind this way. Still despite the warnings his mind gave him his heart overruled it all. He knew that he was falling in love and he knew that no matter what happened he would not be able to give her up. He pretended that perhaps they had a chance, like teenage lovers. He wouldn't let her go for the world, even if it ended with the world coming down, crashing upon his head. Jessica laughed aloud at Brian's funny stories of people he knew at the hospital. She too knew that it was more of an attraction she felt for Brian, and she knew also, that it wouldn't work out. They were just from two different worlds, though she didn't know how right her words were. Still it seemed as though there could never, truly be anything solid between them.

And yet she pretended to herself that she was 15 again and that this was the date in high school that she had missed out on. She pretended that this was simply a nice date with a nice guy that she had "mushy" feelings about. And even though she knew it was wrong, her heart so wanted it to be right.

After their dinner they strode out onto the beach, hand in hand. Despite Brian's promise to himself not to get wrapped up in whatever he was feeling, and despite her distrust of people, they remained close, side by side.

The ocean waves crashed upon the sandy shore and the full moon overhead shined down upon them. The misty spray the waves sent up their way, soaked their clothing. Jessica, in a spontaneous moment took off her heels and made Brian take off his own shoes. He laughed as she pulled him to the water.

Together they let the cool water wash over their feet, he put his arm around her and she leaned her head upon his chest. Both chose to ignore their logic. They put aside their doubts for the night and let their feelings, finally escape.

Back in Brian's bedroom, Jessica sat slowly down on the bed. She made no sign of resistance as he leaned over and kissed her softly on the mouth. Her hands brushed through his hair, taking the collar of his jacket and slipping it off his shoulders.

There wasn't a single doubt inside Jessica's mind as Brian lay her down upon the soft blankets. She paused and looked into his eyes, in deep wonder. They sparkled with innocence that came within. She wanted so badly to be a part of that innocence. The desire was great within them both and soon neither could deny the passion that overwhelmed them both. Jessica wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. Neither could distinguish the flames that they felt, neither tried. Love consumed both of them and for once in Jessica's life her troubles and problems fled her mind.

As a lightning stroke and thunder rolled, inside passions overwhelmed them both, leaving them with fiery storms of their own. And as the fire rose between them and the storm increased a tiny miracle was born, leaving them to wonder of its origin.
