I am so happy I found this site. It is the first
search I ever did on Frugal Gourmet, and to tell you the truth, I don't
remember why I even typed those words in...
About 10 or 12 years ago my mom introduced me to Jeff
Smith. She lives in the bootheel of Missouri, and her public access
channel there carried a cooking show called "The
Frugal Gourmet" on Sundays only. She told me she
wanted his latest book for Christmas, so I got it for her. After
reading a few pages, I decided to find out about the availabilty of
TFG in my area....as luck would have it, my local public
channel (KETV Channel 2 in Little Rock, Arkansas) carried TFG every day
of the week, twice on Sundays. I thought it'd be
nice to make my mom a tape, and for that Christmas I
gave her the new J Smith book, plus over 18 hours of video of TFG.
She was blown away, but even more, I had become a
SERIOUS FG fan. I still to this day use his omelet
recipes every time I prepare one.
Jeff, I miss you. I wish it were possible for you to
come back to TV. You are responsible for my love of cooking shows,
and I now watch Food Network every day of my life. I really
like Mario Batali, Ming Tsai, David Rosengarten, Michael
Lemonico, even ole Emeril gives me a chuckle now and then. I also
like to watch the old French Chef and Galloping
Gourmet reruns at 4:00 am! However, there will never
be another chef that touched me or my mom like The Frug.
Jeff, live well, continue to prosper, and remember there
are lots of folks out here that love you and miss you very much!
I bid you peace.
