Shout
The song starts off with people marching (does anyone have a clue what the guy is saying?? ) - and then pumps into a great guitar riff. Pretty much like Blurring The Edges, a catchy potential pop tune is placed first on the track listings. A great and catchy tune which rips Into a message of if you gotta shout, make It loud as possible! Key lyric to the song in my opinion Is : "So much wasted on unimportant things, Throw away the precious time, When there's so much that really needs changin'" - - - how true Is that?? brilliant song.
What other people think of this song :" a catchy song, although the background, i.e the marching thing at the start is annoying, overall, great song"Lay Down (candles In the rain)
I first heard this song from a bootleg from a concert In Switzerland, and I fell In love with It. But now, It has so many more things to it. One namely Queen Latifa. Meredith met Latifa at Lilith Fair and they both wanted to duet so to speak. Along with Meredith's AMP project, she involved children from the Crenshaw HIgh School and wanted them to be the backup for this particular song. It worked out perfectly. A cover from Melanie Safka, this song is a potential hit with any age group, my friends and family love this song, even though they all have different tastes in music. Repetitive and effective, this is what the song is. I love Queen Latifa's rap, the lyrics really mean something, "What if I told you were stupid, destructive, soulless, callous, murderous, malignant, belligerent, ignorant, would you believe me would you like that, or would you prove me wrong and fight back, I'd like to take the sunshine right from the sky, and let it shine on you through my eyes, You see we all in the same boat trying to float, So everybody grab an oar so we can make it to shore." - I sense equality, that's what they're aiming for- that's why I see this song as special.
What other people think of this song :"I love this song," - note, so many people absolutly adore this song. :)I Have Everything
I have to admit something, although I would never would have seen myself saying this BUT, the first thing I thought when I heard the beginning was Sheryl Crow, I cannot remember which song it sounds like, but that's all I thought of AT FIRST. I can see how personal this song can be to her, :" I have everything but you" - I love the tune and the style she sings it in, it brings a tear to my eye as I start to drift Into my own little thoughts about people In my life. . . .
What other people think of this song :" Very familiar, but a great song overall"Cosmic Woo Woo
I really like this song. Really catchy with an unexplainable edge to it. I see a theme In this song, where It's about people In society, how there's different beliefs In the world, but ignoring for the fact that the goal Is all one anyway, so :" Just get real, don't be a cosmic woo, be who you are let everybody deal, speak with your own voice just get real" - I think this has the quality to get to the top of the charts In my opinion anyway.
What other people think of this song :"ok, read the title and thought, "what the hell is a Woo Woo?!" - but, undoubtly, this is a song where it just sticks in your head"Nobody's Home
A beautiful ballad accompanied with a beautiful voice. again, It must be a real personal song for Mer and credit goes to her for being so brave to write about probably how she felt. something that GTE's to me Is this line :" nothing to believe in, so it comes down to thins, blood on the mirror, temptation is bliss, pills on the table, she just couldn't resist, now nobody's home." - a real tear jerker.
All For Nothing
Starts off with a keyboard part and the drums starts, with an up tempo tune, Meredith rips In quick and fast. I love the part when she sings: "I saw it and I walked away, Only love could save her anyway. I can't believe all the times that we bleed, that it's all for nothing, I will deny all the tears that we cry that it's all for nothing." - It's one of those songs which make me wonder, how the hell to artists sing an great song like this which just gets to the listener (Is It just me?) Apparently, Meredith said in the enhanced portion that this is a song that she really, REALLY meant. like It got to her that anything she did, It was for nothing, and that everything should have a meaning. I agree as when you do anything, It happens for a reason, If It doesn't, then I dunno what to say, I always see It as everything happens for a reason and with close analysis, you'll find out the meaning.
I Said It
When I heard this song, I knew I've heard it before somehow, but how could I if I didn't have the album? I started the song again and it hit me. The guitar background is very VERY similar to Come Undone, which is the b-sIde song In the UK single What Would Happen. It really Is a great song and I was really expecting the lyrics to Come Undone to be sung. At any rate, this Is a great song, It cuts to the chase when she sings the last line, the whole point of the song : " Believe it, now get it, you want if I meant it, I love you."
What other people think of this song :"I knew it sounded familiar, like a Bryan Adams song, Lie To Me, but i really like the song anyways!"Back To Eden
The song is not like any Meredith song I've ever heard, Infact; it's brilliant, It has so many elements In It. I think It may be a little Spanish style, correct me If I'm wrong anybody! Lot's of biblical connotations as well. Catchy tune.
Bored With Myself
I'm pretty sure that anyone can relate to this song. In the state of a pure and utter boredom, which drives you to think if other people like Marilyn Monroe ever felt this way? I think everyone, at one time or another have been do bored, that all you do Is mope around, making people crazy as they are so concerned for you, and explaining that all you need Is time to get over this, something that you have to go through yet It can be quite pointless yet useful In the long run (am I making sense? )
Careful What You Wish For
From the soundtrack of Ed TV, I really love this song, It's got so many things all at once, I love the guitar rife at the beginning and at the end of the song. "Isn't this what you always wanted, isn't this how you saw the view, careful what you wish for, it just might come true". I love the chorus, agaIn, I think this song has an unexplainable edge to It - to me anyway!
Sin City
From the Snake Eyes soundtrack. I was planning on skipping this song when I first got the album as I've already heard it from the Snake Eyes soundtrack, until I heard the beginning. The moment I herd the guitar go off, I knew It was a different version, It Is a toned down, almost acoustic version of Sin City, and It truly made me bring a tear to my eye as her voice was Is so extremely toned down and beautiful. I love this song :" the streets will be the same, under your feet like quicksand, touch the face, where a kiss of hope can last."
What other people think of this song :"by far, i like this song the most"Back To Nowhere
Oh my god. After hearing Sin City, I was so incredibly moved by this song, especially because I have heard It live, when I went to the London gig In 98, Meredith played this song, and I prayed that she would release this anywhere. I remember just everyone shutting up and listening to her, I leant on the barricade as It felt like a bed time story. In this version, her voice is indescribable, so soft and gentle. "I'm sure your fine, but in case it's me you're missing, you should know I'd gladly go, back to somewhere, back to anywhere, I'd go, With You. " I felt so incredibly emotional after this song. Anyone that hears this song, loves It. Funny thing happened when I was playing this album In my brother's room, my eldest brother was reading a magazine and when he heard the beginning of this song, he just put the magazine down and looked at me and said, "I love this song, oh my god, I cannot believe I'm hearing this, I really love this song." I asked him if her remembered Meredith singing it in the concert, he said of course he did.
I'm totally amazed at the quality of this album, It is so extremely different from her songs from BTE. I personally congratulate Meredith on a true work of art, she has made a wonderful album, I just hope that people can get that one song (Bitch) that they associate Meredith with and just listen.
"in the end it doesn't really matter what you say or what you wear, do you think big G gives a -- how you get there, Buddhism, Communism, Hinduism, Health Foods, Lennonism, Sexism, what about your own ism
Just get real, don't be a cosmic woo, be who you are let everybody deal, speak with your own voice just get real.
FACTS ABOUT DECONSTRUCTION . . . .
Meredith's fav tune is I Have Everything.
She went through a "deconstruction" in her life due to personal problems such a divorce which made her stronger in the long run, " a resurrection with more knowledge and insight to a deeper self" But with a semantic realignment like attitude, the word deconstruction is positive in a sense that you have to breakdown in order to live stronger afterwards. I'm understanding her concept already . . . .are you?
