Millennium Review

Millennium Review

Okay, Sunnie finally here with my long-anticipated BSB CD Review. Bet you’ve all been itchin’ to know what I thought, huh? **crickets chirping**

Anyway, here goes. I’ll be giving a rating for each song.

Larger Than Life
Luv the fact that they decided to dedicate a song to their fans. After all, without the fans they wouldn’t be so rich and famous and Nick would just be an ordinary blond kid from Orlando. Anyway . . .
What does “Larger Than Life” stand for, anyhow? Their generally obese slutty tank top sporting fans of Nick?
So where’s my song, JC? Hmmm?! Can we say “Everybody” 2? And AJ, please- stop. Just . . . . stop, already. Thanks, BSB!

Rating: 6.9

I Want It That Way
I love how the beat picks up once Nick (of all people, Nick) starts singing. Love the guitar, harmony, background, beat- everything! Kevin even gets a solo! (Way to go, Cheryl!) I love the other version too- even the video.

Rating: 8.5

Show Me The Meaning . . .
I love this song, contrary to popular opinion. In fact, it’s a personal favorite of mine. The guitar and strings add a beautifully haunting touch as well as the percussion. Their voices blend well together, and all in all, it sounds one hell of a lot deeper than “God must have spent a little more time on you.”
I heard clips of this song on the Brit-Bit CD and I couldn’t wait to hear more. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed.

Rating: 9.2

It’s Gotta Be You
If I’d ever stopped to listen to it more, I’d have a review. What can I say? **shrug** In the beginning, AJ isn’t . . . well, all that good, But pretty upbeat.

Rating: 5.1

I Need You Tonight
What strikes me first in this song is the gorgeous piano background. It just makes the song- good. Nick’s notorious squeaking as well as his **cough cough** vocals actually do fit the song (although Brian would have been a better choice). The electric guitar along with the piano and strings and harmony bland together wonderfully. The guitar is awesome. I love the melody. The chorus is nice too, and the bridge is probably the best part, especially when Nick sings, “I neeeeeee-eeeeeeeee-eeeeeeeeeed you . . . . I need you, oh I need you baby”. Yeah, I’ll admit. He’s not all that bad. I would’ve loved to hear the others sing a bit more, but all in all a beautiful song.

Rating: 9.2

Don’t Want You Back
Hardest hitting track on the album; AJ’s “shark attack”, contradiction of ‘N Sync works brilliantly. Love the song, especially the part when AJ sings ”You saw my picture on the Backstreet’s back alright!
Ha ha, and Nick sings “sexuality.” Again.

Rating: 7.6

Don’t Want To Lose You Now
Call me a stickler for ballads, but I really love this song too. Guitar, harmony, great. Chorus could be a little bit more profound, but okay. I especially like Brian’s solo: ”I have this feeling/ you’re not going to change” and the beat picks up. It’s a pretty cool song.

Rating: 8.9

The One
Sorry, but I’m not exactly a fan of No Mercy. Didn’t like it on “I Need Love”, don’t like it now. Sorry. Good beat though.

Rating: 4.8

Back To Your Heart
Kevin does a great job on the keyboards here. But shouldn’t he have gotten a solo on his own song?! Just goes to show you how incredibly unselfish the man is. Shame on you, Nick.
The chorus could be a bit stronger along the end, but a great song. Kevin, I applaud you.

Rating: 8.3

Spanish Eyes
Slow ballad. Guitar. Percussion. Yup. Love this one too. It’d be better if Howie didn’t sing. Gee, I can just see those ethnic activists jumping at their throats now. It’s by the same guy who wrote “I Need You Tonight.”
As for AJ’s raspy voice, I could take it or leave it I guess (although I’d much rather leave it). Chorus could also pick up a bit more too. Good though.

Rating: 8

No One Else Comes Close
Sounds like an 80s ballad. Not that 80s ballads are bad; in fact most of them are favorites of mine . . .getting off track here. Anyway, it’s nice but kind of boring.
The best part is when AJ sings “Damn . . . I love you” in the end. (Turn it up in the end and Listen!) Classic. That Amanda Latona must be one very lucky girl.

Rating: 7.5

The Perfect Fan
The piano is very beautiful here too. Sounds rather familiar though. The verses could be a bit stronger, but I think it’s incredibly sweet that Brian took the time to pen a song for his mom . . . but what about the dads?
The choir and the orchestra add a sweet “I Believe I Can Fly” sorta touch. It is very much a “mama’s boy” song. But a wonderful one, to be sure. I love Kevin’s verse too.

Rating: 8.9

Appearance

Wonderful pictures. But what’s the deal with lyrics to only 6 of the songs?
I love the color theme and the whole “element” thing. It looks very pretty, actually.

This deserves an 8.8. Not exactly a Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band cover (The BEST Group in the world, the Beatles), but it’s great nonetheless.
