It is unknown how the cat appeared on our planet. Investigations state that the cat's ancient ancestors are the following:
- The Miacis- a weasel-like animal that lived about 50 million years ago. It's supposedly, the common ancestor of dogs too, but cats are said to have existed way before the dog.
- The Smilodin- the prehistoric beauty also known as the saber-tooth.
Cats are of the order, Carnivora, and the family Felidae, scientifically speaking.
Of the Feliadae there are six genera:
Felis, Lynx, Neofelis, Uncia, Acinonyx, and Panthera. The domestic cat belongs to the Felis genera.
From gods to demons, from savage to domesticate, cats have been all of this and more to us and in society cats still holds a strong significance, some are advantegeous to the cat and others are harmful and deadly. The cat remains fascinating in our society even today.
