Joust Help Page

Greetings, and welcome to the Joust Help Page of Britain, Realms of Pendragon. This has been created to answer as many questions as we can as to the nature of jousting, as well as how to get the gestures and use them in Virtual Places by Excite and Webcrawler.
First of all, before you download the zipped files of these gestures,(25 in each zip), you will need to make two new palattes(folders) in your Vplaces file. To do this, simply go to Windows Explorer/C:drive/ProgramFiles/Vplaces/Exts. Once you are there, highlight ext by clicking on it once, and go to the top of your window. Click FILE/NEW/FOLDER. Do this twice, naming them Gesturesleft and right or whatever you like (make a note of the actual folder's name). Once you have those palattes made, you will save the gestures to each of them. (leftblock to left and rightblock to right) To access them once in VP again, you go to the top of your window in VP, and click tools/preferences/directories. Where it says Gesture Gallery, change the ending to reflect your new folder's name, whether you are going to joust at the right, or at the left that particular time.(You will need both sets.)

Left Jouster Gestures

Right Jouster Gestures

Here are some avatars for jousting, for those of you that can't find any, I found these on various pages and hope you have use for them.

Jousting is based on using gestures in a move, countermove fashion. ANYONE can joust, you don't have to be male, or belong to a realm. All it requires is patience, and speed with your mouse. Of course, being a polite person will make people more inclined to joust with you! :)
When jousting, the judge rules the match, dictating the beginning and the end. You begin with charging your opponent, then you may raise your lance and knock your opponent down. Both must play (dismount and draws sword) before the match may begin. Noone may attack before both Knights have drawn their swords. You may only attack once. There is a 5 second time limit to respond with the correct defensive move. (If you do not respond within the 5 seconds, your opponent will receive a point.) Then you may attack or the other person may attack. This is where speed comes into play. If you do attack twice without defence, you will receive a warning from the judge the first time. The second time your opponent will receive a point. (It's really not as hard as it sounds and it's great fun!)

Here is an example of a match

Judge: SALUTE
Knight one: SALUTE
Knight two: SALUTE
Judge: KNIGHTS READY?
Knight one: READY
Knight two: READY
Judge: JOUST
Knight one: (Charges Towards Opponent)
Knight two: (Charges toward Opponent)
Knight one: (Raises Lance Unseats Opponent)
Knight two: (Raises Lance/Unseats Opponent)
Knight one: (Dismounts and Draws Sword)
Knight two: (Dismounts and Draws Sword)
Knight one: (Lunges Upper Body)
Knight two: (Parries Lunge....Sweeps Low)
Knight one: (Jumps Over Sword)
Knight one: (Swings Mace)
Knight two: (Uses Shield to Block Mace)
Knight two: (Thrusts Midsection)
Knight one: (Parries Thrust...Lunges Upper Body)
Knight two: (Parries Lunge....Sweeps High)
Knight one: (Ducks Under Sword)
Knight two: (Steps Back and Throws Dagger)
Knight one: (Uses Shield to Knock Knight Down)
Judge: HALT
Judge: POINT KNIGHT TWO
(Knight two got the point because the attack was not defended before the other knight attacked.)
Judge: SCORE 0-1
Judge: KNIGHTS READY?
Knight two: READY
Knight one: READY
Judge: JOUST
Knight one: (Feints Right....Thrusts Left)
Knight two: (Dodges Right)
Knight two: (Lunges Upper Body)
Knight one: (Blocks Upper Body)
Knight one: (Feints Left....Lunges Right)
Knight two: (Parries Thrust...Lunges Upper Body)
Judge: HALT
Judge: POINT KNIGHT ONE
(Knight one got a point because Knight two parried a THRUST not a LUNGE, therefore the move was undefended.)
Judge: SCORE 1-1

The match continues until one Knight gets 5 points. Then the two Knights salute each other again and it's over.

If you need any help with any of this, or would like someone to practice with, please email me with 3 times you would like to meet, and Lady Aelia or I, Lady Danae, will respond.
